Is Ecuador a friendly country for South Asians

Post new topic

priyabatu

I am a South Asian from Sri Lanka, now a citizen of USA living in California. I worked for Fedex Office as the District Auditor in San Francisco and retired in 2012. I am looking at the possibility of moving to Ecuador, and want to no how the life will be for a married couple of South Asian origin who are normally brown colored. Mainly to know whether it will be a friendly country.

Welcome to the Ecuador forum, Priya.

Here in Quito, the capital, the locals are typically welcoming to new arrivals who are friendly and show an effort to communicate in ±ð²õ±è²¹Ã±´Ç±ô.

This is an international city, one of whose main shopping thoroughfares is Naciones Unidas (United Nations).

Ecuadorians, especially in the current sour economy, are zealous in protecting their jobs/livelihood.

So, as retirees not seeking to take job(s) that would otherwise go to locals, you and the dollars you inject into the economy will be roundly welcomed.

Thank you very much for your prompt response. My question is whether the South Asian people who are generally brown in color do get treated the same way as the White skinned people.

Ecuadorean don’t strike me as racists. Half if not more of Ecuador is brown skinned. Why not visit Ecuador for a month or two and see for yourself. The term Moreno/Morena (brown) is even deemed endearing here in proper context. Then again, I’m just sharing my observation of society in this regard, as I’m not brown skinned, so I’m not talking from experience. But I think it’s something you don’t have to worry about as long as you conduct yourself respectfully.
