Hi Ken,

I'm trying to to gain work in Austin Texas having problem how did you get your work authority

kenperry

I applied for my work authority at the same time i did my change of status and travel permit. I got my work auth and travel permit back and i am still waiting for my interview for change of status, which is next week.

danaustin

Hi Ken,

I don't understand when you say:
I applied for my work authority at the same time i did my change of status and travel permit.
What change of status and travel permit?

Could you please explain the process.

kenperry

I came to the states on a visitors visa and decided to do a change of status to perm resident and at the same time I applied for my authority to work and re-entry premit. They issued my work and re-entry so I can stay and work while I wait for my change of status.

danaustin

Ken,

I was told that I couldn't change from a visitors visa to any other visa?  How did you get a perm resident status didn't you have to leave the country because you were on a visitors / tourist visa?

What's a re-entry permit?

kenperry

I havent got my change of status yet its in the works. There are exceptions to the "you cant change" rule and I am exploring one of these. A re-entry permit lets me leave the states and come back without the need for a visa.

danaustin

How do you obtain a re-entry visa and what is the requirements?

What are the exceptions?

kenperry

There re lots of exceptions. Go to the USCIS web site and explore that. It would take me a couple of days to go thru them with you. You can get travel authority when you are applying for a change of status so that you can leave and return without abandoning your application. You just apply at the same time you apply for change of status so it doesnt cost anything extra.
