New expat seeking friends to explore with

Post new topic

Cultural_Catnip

Hello,

I am a young woman from the Pacific Northwest of USA and I recently moved to Amman to work with a NGO. I only studied Arabic for about a year and a half, so I am still working on it, insha'allah!

It has been very difficult to meet people and make friends. In my few attempts, I have only come across older men seeking younger girlfriends and it has been difficult to explain to them that I only want friendship. So I stress here that I am not looking for romance.

I love dancing, eating, hiking, sightseeing, exploring, chatting over tea, I am very open minded!

Be my friend, please!

welcome on board,

i am sorry to here that, but maybe you have to try to find someone in your work, or in your neighborhood.

From own experience, I know it is difficult to be a lone as a foreigner in a foreign country especially in the first year, but believe me, one day you will not find a little bit time for you, because of your friends and colleague, who you like.

i wish you all the best, and have a nice residence in Jordan

Welcome on board and ahlan wa sahlan fi Urdun

I guess you learned your first lesson  :D
It's difficult to mingle with the opposite gender unless you have other intentions.

Maybe you can join some clubs where you meet people with the same interest like a dance school?
Invite some colleagues at your home for a traditional meal (thanksgiving is on its way! )

Just some options to consider.

Welcome to Jordan :)

I do exploration trips regularly. See  facebook.com/jordanphototravel/ or send me your email so I can add you to my mailing list.
Most trips are to remote sites, involve off-roading, camping and more fun. Audience is mixed expats and Jordanians.

Hi cultural.

I am also facing same your satuation. I came here on Amman begining of this month to work on Bank.

I do believe that making friend is not an easy task  :| . My Colleague at work always they are bussy with thier famely and its difficult for them to come back again after working time to central of Amman specaily who is living far of central area.

I have many interesting thing and hoppies that i would like to do during the weekend such as ridding horses and diving . But unfurtuntely that its not available here on Amman or i dont find yet  .

I think its need time to vuild agood relationship with expat or local pepole and wish every things will go right.

Thanks and regards

There is a place for horseback riding in Amman somewhere.  I have no idea what it's called or where it is so I am not much help but it does exist I am pretty sure.  I don't know if it's trial type riding though it might just be lessons.  Of course no diving in Amman but there is down in Aqaba.  Dead Sea is close for a weekend day trip though.  Not a whole lot to do there but a soak in the sea and a day by the pool can do some good for homesickness. And I agree, it is hard to make friends here.

thamerfahd

Thank a lot kip for your reply and help.

Yes, you are right there is ridding horse at Amman but its only for lessons and beginers and the space is  too small its not fit for one who would like to run with full speed of horse  :nothappy: .

For the diving i have heard that Al- agaba diving activites , but if i want to travel with that distance i prefer to go to Sharm alshakh -Egypt.

Thanks a lot once again and hope we will  be able to orgonize a gathering event for all expat at Amman.

Regards.

Yes you can get some really great deals to Sharm now, its probably even more economical than going t Aqaba and it's an easy quick flight from Amman.  I went last year it was great.

Why not full speeding in wadi rum?
I heard that there are also horse riding tours in and around Petra.

I checked your page. Seems very interesting.
Do you need to have a four wheel drive to participate?

thamerfahd

Thank all of you for your reply. I relly apprecaite your feedback and assistance on topic.

What i was looking for is somthing relly differant since i am a professional on horse ridding and i would like to find an open area or field that allow me to speed up on horse ridding till 80 or 90 K/h. The one on Wadi arm is only for tourst pepole who just walk on the horse rather than running on horse. Which make alot of diffferant for me.

I have owned Arabic horses at my country and i have been always ride horses during the weekend on open area that makes me feel free of running at full speed.

I wish that i can find same of my interst activities here at Amman. Evry weekend i have to go back to my country just to see my horses and enjoying horse riding overethere.

Thanks a lot and regarding

Horse riding in Petra is indeed for tourists.
But you and I were talking about full speed riding. And I think wadi rum is suitable to go wild. You can even race with the bedouins there. That's what I should do by asking them.
They can even take you to places where almost nobody knows.

I might shoud go there someday.

If some one of you are interested lets arrange to go there on group.

Looking forward to hearing from all if you.
