shipping by sea to Mexico, have any of you done this?

Post new topic

I live in Asia and want to ship by sea to Mexico and then by truck up to San Miguel.
I am getting very worrying information at restrictions of what I can take. As an artist and jeweler I will have lots of tools, some silver, lots antiques and artwork. They say I can't bring this. What to do?  Have any of you brought in artists goods?

I haven't personally shipped goods to Mexico by sea but I do know a family that shipped their goods from Mexico to Canada and everything arrived in good order and in reasonable time.

Regarding restricted goods, all items you are moving to Mexico must be listed on the menaje de casa which must be approved by a Mexican consulate/embassy in your country. The moving company will only accept items listed on the menaje de casa so I'm guessing you'll have to make arrangements to store or dispose of those restricted items before you leave for Mexico. Good luck!

Consider that it may be cheaper to sell most of what you have and buy again when you settle in Mexico. Granted, some items may be problematic to find, but the hassle factor of shipping them and getting through customs has to be considered.

It must be OK, there are a lot of Asians in Mexico.
If you're serious, you'll have to go through a Mexican consulate or embassy.
All I can find is the listing for the Mexican Embassy in Hanoi.
