What are some of the best neighborhoods for purchasing real estate that might be a 10-15 minute drive to Centro?

Melanie_In_Mexico

Here are a few:

Rancho Los Labradores
Malenquin Golf Course
La Cieneguita
Los Frailes
La Candelaria
Las Ventanas

I suggest you come for 2-3 weeks to explore different neighborhoods and to interview bilingual / bicultural Expats & real estate agents who live here full-time.

Best of luck!
Melanie

Thank you so much!

Be careful about real estate agents. They have an agenda that may not coincide with your needs. But the advise about visiting and checking the neighborhoods is good.

One thing about Los Frailes (where I currently live) is that it can be a little noisy due to the passing trains (even through the night). It depends on where in Los Frailes you decide to buy. The trains are less of a problem at least 6 blocks from the main highway.

There are many places for sale in this area.

Avoid anything too close to the center of the city unless you don't mind fireworks. Los Frailes is good. It is far enough away from El Centro so that the fireworks are not a problem.

In some areas you may have to put up with barking dogs, but they don't bark all of the time.
