Parental responsibility

I am in the US currently. The law here is if your child does harm to someone or something, the parents are financially responsible for the damage or medical bills. Does anyone know what the laws are in Belgium about this? Weird question, I know.

Yes of course if you are legally responsible for a child, you are legally responsible for their medical bills and damages they cause.

If your child becomes a ward of the court system, then that child becomes the responsibility of the relevant language community.

Thanks- I had a Belgian friend answer me as well - "  ... parents have full responsibility till the age of 14 ...shared responsibility with the child from 14 till 15. From 16 till 17 the child is responsible but the parents could be charged as well in some cases. From 18 full responsibility for the child."
