Looking for any Aussie expats in Malta.

I'm coming up to the 185 day residency in Malta and am looking at converting my license in a couple of months. Does anyone have first hand experience of the procedure?

I'm well aware of this:

However the part that concerns me is this:

"verification of the validity of the driving licence signed by the Australian Authorities (for Australian driving licences)"

Does anyone know how I would obtain that without literally going back home? (and even if I did go back home, I don't know who would fill it out)
