We have been talking about loneliness when you are abroad, let's now talk about how to make friends (locals or expatriates) when you're living in Al Ain
Which are your best tips to meet people and to make friends in Al Ain??
Thanks in advance for your participation
i think it is so hard to make friends in city like al-ain
btw nothing impossible ,,,,,
however most of new friends are really not cool at all :S
the cool ppl aren't going out in alain ,,, they are going in dubai ( i mean in weekend :S)
ya ,,, but every one should try ,,,,
so i think the best way to meet new freinds here are
1- have course ,,, like any kind of course ( sport course , sport course )
2- join health culd in hotel
1-
I have been living in Al Ain for 5 months now and I didn't find difficulty finding friends. Place is not the reason of making or not making friends...it is the way how you are treating the people. If you are friendly enough, it will be easy to find friends anywhere you are.
There are various expats in Al Ain. If you want to meet some, you just go to some bars such as in Rotana or Hilton. In there, there are many people will come to talk to you...I found a lot friendly.
Ibram is correct in suggesting to have a sport course or join in a health club.
If you are in sports, go for basketball, tennis, golf or anything. Don't hesitate to join a group and don't think of rejections.
If you are religious (like if you are Christian), join a choir group or any church organization.
You will find getting friends will be easy.
I tried some time s Ala ian Rotana but no one was seems friendly with you. It is upm to you how much friend you can take with you to make hal gula there
Housemaster,
It would be friendly for other forumers if you write your texts completely in English
Thanks

I was born and bought up in the UAE among other places - (well I am an expat now! )
Making friends is just "different" here. You don't exactly go out with everyone and you sometimes feel claustrophobic in some areas like a fish out of water...
But it's cool just relax and have a pleasant demeanor (well for the ladies - i am sorry to say - don't go smiling at everyone alright ;-) That is applicable here like in every other country in the world ;-) )
For friends look at the closest ppl around you - work maybe - even different departments.
Joining a Health club is the best thing -- correction - an exercise/activity club. The gym doesn't count! No one talks when doing cardio or pumping iron - so don't complain!
I also get a lot of expats complaining about the lack interaction with other nationalities... well the thing is I guess less of discrimination and more of a difference in outlook - if get scratched twice by a cat you aren't gonna go cuddle the next one you see. It might stem from bad experiences ...
Arabs (emiratis) are really cool friends! If ppl tell me there is a definite pattern to how ppl from from certain demographics and nationalities behave - I agree but yet I disagree - I had met a lot of ppl in all these categories!
Unfortunately all my Irish, emirati, Indian, Paki, Pinoy, Brit friends are now in other parts of the world... and I guess it is time to find a place to grab coffee at go for kick boxing or even salsa...
Any suggestions?? :-(
Like living in Al Ain but difficult to meet genuine people, usually be in the Rotana or Pacos........
people are very simple and kindly. life is also simple here
but you need to start talk with them
Em bored in the weekdays as well as weekends & em looking for friends who are friendly and nice to hangout with.Em not interested in relationship or anything else other than friendship, so if you re interested in dating and relationship, do not message me but if u want to have a new friend to talk, to go out with (eg. cofee shops, mani/padi etc.) tell me abt urself & I'll tell you more abt myself Lookin forward for some1 to approach & take the opportunity to make a conversation
Btw, I nevr knew dat I will join an ½ûÂþÌìÌà sumday, I didnt even know if such blogs existed.. Early September 2011, I was watching a movie (The Holiday - 2006), some wat my situation was jst lyk (Amanda Woods) {cast by Cameron Diaz} excluding the problems, to be precise the feeling of emptiness.. I wont deny dat I wish, I cud swap in real life lool.. Hmmm, I rather live in the reality den the fantasy wrld.. On 25th Sept. 2011, mid morning, I clicked on a new tab & googled, for friends in Al Ain.. The first search I found, clicked on it & brought to me to this blog, I was relieved cuz I thought I was the only (Amanda Woods) but its seems I was mistaken.. I found bunch of (Amanda Woods), afterall I wasnt alone.. Every now a den some1 needs a friend to lean on, its hrd cant deny dat but it depends how much ur willing to gve to hve this friendship goin.. Any1 reading this my post/profile dont U hesitate to extend the hand of friendship cuz after family the most genuine relation is friendship

msmithjr wrote:Ok... Anyone else get the thought... " aren't there any normal people here??"
Kidding... I have several work colleagues here in Al Ain but would enjoy some normal American or Western people to hang with... Any ball players out there for a game a catch?
It's definitely been a while since you posted this, but I'm new to this site. Did you ever meet any 'normal' Americans?  Anyway, I should be arriving in Al Ain in a week or so, so if you're still there and want to meet another American, let me know! I'm always up for doing something sporty or outdoors, but a low-key meetup works, too.
Lauren
Dunno about normal Americans, but quite a few normal other nationals in here, impatiently waiting for some social saviour!!!
Hope the savior's reading
