Hi Anna,
  Thanks for your reply.
I am not sure if your services are needed,as I was looking for some direction in like getting a tax number.
  Can you help?

Do you work in Athens?

If yes, you have to subscribe to the tax authority of your neigboorhood.

If you do not work, you will subscribe in a special tax authority for Citizens of other countries!

The documents to be submitted depend on your status.

Also for residency permit, again will you be working? When did you enter the country?

tomorrowsboy7

Well Anna,
   At last,someone who knows something!
   No, I do not work.
I entered the country 7 weeks ago.
I checked out the requirements while in NY and the process was a bit "daunting",so I decided to see what I can do here.
   What documents would be required?
I am not of Greek origin and have a SSI payment for income.
I am not sure if it is enough, like 780.00 a month.
   What do you think.

Sorry but I need to ask more questions to givw you a definite reply...

1. do you have a rental contract?or staying at a friends flat?
2. do you intend to work?
3. What is the purpose of your visit?
4. How long do you intend to stay and what do you need the tax number for?

I suppose you are an American citizen, probably over 65 years old (judging from the SSI payment). Please confirm!

Regards,
Anna

Well I do not have a rental contract but can get one if necessary,(I think).
No,I do NOT intend to work.
My "purpose" is to see the country and learn the language.
I need the tax number to buy a car,get electricity in my name, get a bank account, that sort of thing.
How long I stay depends on whether I can get these things set up or not.
I am (only) 56.
My SSI is a Disability,(medical,I am not "handicapped".
And yes,I AM a US citizen.

In that case you will issue a tax number in the special tax authority for foreigners.

However, the  issue now is how long you can stay in the country as a tourist! Normally 90 days...I have to check it though!
