lawyer fees in advance?

Post new topic

enise

Hi, i  have engaged a lawyer who says i must pay in advance for his services. He says this is because my case is a criminal one, not a compensation one. It involves an unpaid amana receipt and he says it's 'breach of trust'. Is this normal/correct? (my friends say lawyers usually charge after working and it's 10% of  what's recovered).

You haven't specify whether you are Debtor or Creditor?

enise

i am the one who lost money (not sure if that makes me a debtor or creditor)

Dear Enise,
That's mean you're the creditor its the legal term for the part who pay or delver to the other party who received the sum of money is called debtor for example when some one receives a loan from a bank is such case the bank is the creditor and the person who is get the loan is the debtor.
In this case I do believe your friend is close to what actually done by many Lawyers, they only charge a small amount to cover the actual expenses and after collect they charge the agreed percent and some of them charge this percent from the debtor as a matter of fact.
The percent is not fixed to 10% it varies according to the level of the Lawyer involved, but the minimum is 10%.
Please advise, should further clarifications deem necessary.
Best Regards,
Mohamed
