Spouse visa processing time
Hello guys I submitted my documents on 8th September 2017 for long stay visa to join my spouse who is a Belgian citizen. It is going to be 3 months since I applied but got no answer of approval of documents till yet. Can you guys tell me what is the maximum processing time? And what to do next?
As you can read in many threads here, right now waiting time is more than 5 months or so. There are people who applied in April and still waiting decision.
Sir but the vfs says it is upto 6 months. My husband has the Belgian nationality and has his own house and health insurance. He works about 2000€ monthly. Do I still have to wait for more than 5 months? Or it is for the people who have a weaker case?
Hello aneeshk.hope you well! I m still wating for the visa approval.one thing I heard that if your visa proceeding time go longer ,there is much chances of approval,.is this true or just rumour?
@Mohsinjazzy they should give you either denial or accept your request of visa. How can they put you in waiting for upto 7 months.
They can it is all depending on the workload of the ministry.
Yes nowadays 6 months or more. Spouses social or financial status does not play a role in the time taken to process.
Do they count Time period of 6 months from date of application
Or
From the date of registration of application from aliens office?
Is there any way to fasten the process ?
Date of registration of application in aliens office I guess (from the experiences we hear in this forum)

Hey,
I applied for a long stay visa on the 11th of October. What's the average processing time for the dependent spouse visa application?
Fazila, I looked at your situation and my wife's condition was exactly same. She applied for D visa from her country of origin, after 5 and 1/2 month it was approved. I am also a naturalized Belgian, my condition is similar to your husband even the income. I can tell you, An EU or specially Belgian citizen's wife cannot be denied with long term D visa, as that is illegal and law clearly says if visa is not processed by max 6 months, Visa is automatically granted.Â
They can deny your visa only on 3 grounds, a. If you are a threat to Belgian national security, b. Have a bad contegious disease like Tuberclosis and c. your marriage is fake or you have done a business marriage, in another ground they may hesitate but can not deny is when your spouse is not working and on Belgian social hand outs. There are no other ground by which they can deny. In all other cases for non citizen marring non citizen etc, the processing period can be very long or they have the right to deny long term visa.
So calm down and give them their 6 months maximum statutory processing time. Your visa will arrive in less than 6 months, just be patient, only that way you can prove your marriage is real. I know it is very difficult to keep patience but is there another way?????
Dont want to discourage, the processing time can be anything up to 1 and 1/2 years or denial depending if you are a spouse of a non citizen or not ? if yes then above is true, if no then processing period is max. 6 months (spouse of a citizen) for D visa.
Is there any one in situation of father of belgian minor and how much is the time for visa processing in this case.. I applied visa on 8th june and still the visa is under treatment...
i think you have to wait atleast 4-6 month for the decision..

Hi
I have got a date of decision taken on my spouse visa application.
Is there any other procedure that needs to be taken after the date of decision has been taken? When do we get to know whether the visa has been granted or not?

Hi

What does the DOFI website say in the field "Décision: ", when you check the file status ?

En attente de la réception de documents étayant la demande de visa envoyés par valise diplomatique par le poste diplomatique/consulaire
This means that they need additional documents. They have asked this to the consulate of your home country. The consulate will ask you through VFS what additional documents are required. Once you submit those documents and when DOFI receives those, the final decision will be made.
Hi Aneeshks,
I have applied for long term Visa.i got an update on dofi website when I translated I got this
"Awaiting receipt of documents supporting visa application sent by diplomatic bag by diplomatic / consular post.
extra info1: Visa file processed only upon receipt of documents concerned, even if the visa application has already been transmitted electronically The sending by diplomatic bag lasts an average of one month. The processing time of the visa application then depends on the complexity of the dossier.extra info2: The decision is normally sent the day it is taken. A period of a few days may, however, pass before it is actually received by the diplomatic or consular post."
I am little confused what does it mean🤔.can you please help me.
This is exactly what is explained above.
Hi Aneeshks,
Thankyou for your reply.
If I have to submit more documents then how long will this process take and in how many days I get to know what documents I have to submit.
Thanks in advance.
No idea.. it depends.. normally when the file is under processing and waiting additional documents, the additional documents provided to them are processed quite fast (in a week or so).
Thankyou for your reply.
Finger crossed hope for the best.
I dont know how much this answer is going to help, but I just want to give you a comparison of the processing times,
Official Processing Times -
Minimum 6 months
Extension of 3 months in case the decision takes more scrutiny
A maximum of 15 months
In my case -
We took a month to gather all the documents in order and we sent it.
- 35 days for status to appear on the website.
- 60 days for the Visa to be issued
A total of 95 days.
So it all depends on how carefully you have put together all the documents required.
They have asked for additional documents which we have given... Does anyone know how much time it takes to get the visa, after we have given the required documents?
Hi Shivya,
What documents they asked you and after updated on dofi website how many days you get email for submitting required documents from vfs or embassy.
Thankyou

Normally it is quite fast. As your file is now in processing with DOFI, when they get the missing documents, (normally) they will process it without further delay. I would expect a week or two max (documents to be sent from VFS to the consulate to DOFI and for them to process it).
Thank you Aneesh. This is most reassuring and helpful
Good luck. BTW, what documents were missing (out of curiosity and also for others who follow the threads to be prepared with such documents with the first application itself)
There was nothing missing. They wanted another copy of a document we had submitted before.
Got my Visa.thankyou so much everyone for your help.😊
Hi Kanu,
When did you apply for you r visa. My wife has submitted her documents to VFS today, what will be the next steps and what will be the timeline for that? Any specific thing to be taken care if you want to share.
