The best apps for expats in the USA

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hello,

We invite you to share information regarding some of the apps that have helped to facilitate your move abroad in the USA. This will help expats-to-be who are making the move as well.

Which apps did you use while preparing your move to the USA?

What apps do you use the most for your everyday life in the USA: whether it's for transport, managing finances, general information, learning the language of your host country, leisure activities, etc.?

How does this technology help you in your everyday life as an expat?

Which apps would you recommend to expatriates in the USA and why?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Well, leaving in a region where coverage was not great, apps were far from being the priority number one. Not to mention that some areas e.g. around Greenbrier/Green Bank (WV) the use of cell phones is completely blocked. Keep this in mind when one moves to the US. The second point is providing specific apps is not the essential, one should try the apps that work best in one's region.
Nonetheless if I have to choose most useful apps while starting living in the US I would surely rank first:
- GPS apps. It has surely the most useful apps while discovering a new region, the country is so vast, But again be careful with the coverage, so have a paper based back up.
- Communication apps especially for text such as messenger, whatsApp... again important when the coverage is not great sometimes text communication works better. Also I used frequently Skype for business purpose and teleconferencing.
- International news apps. One can live in the US an entire year watching the news daily without knowing what is going on around the world. So if like me, one needs to know what is really going on international news apps are great tools.
- Last bu not least home technology apps are pretty useful for security, frequently weather changing environment...
Again I am not a big apps specialist and I am not a big social network user so surely there are many more useful apps to suggest while moving and living in the US...Best

All chat and video call apps that allow me to connect with family and friends around the globe: Whatsapp, Viber, etc. Also your bank app is very important.
