spouse visa

Hi Everyone

I am going to Thailand on a 60 day tourist visa to marry my fiancee who is a Thai national.
I am wanting to obtain a spouse visa so that I can live with her in Thailand. The finances and requirements are not a problem.
my question is: Can I obtain a spouse visa while I am in Thailand or do I have to return to my country (South Africa) in order to apply for it?
Your comments woud be much appreciated

Are you having a Traditional Thai wedding or will it be a legally registered marriage at local Amphur Office? If only a Traditional wedding and not legally registered, then you won't qualify for spouse visa. If it's a legally registered marriage, then you can apply while here... Whoever is handling your marriage registration could probably help with all the paperwork for your visa also.

I don't know of any rules that state you have to go back to home country to apply... I received my long-stay visa after I arrived here.

If you are over 50 years of age you can apply for a retirement visa if you will be living here. You get a 3 mth first, then 1 year extension of stay (retirement) visa. I got my 3 mth & 1 year all at same time, so I was good for 15 mths first time around...

You might want to do a Google search for Non-immigrant visa “O” , Thailand.  Your marriage extension will need to be based on the above valid visa and not on your tourist visa.  At some point you will need to to change visas if you come in on a tourist visa.

Hi

Thank you for your reply. It will be a legal marriage. I will take your advice and ask the person handling the marriage registration to help.
Thank you again
