@planner yes I have the bank transfer to the dealer shown in my bank account.

rlwoodz

@planner I will. He was definitely involved with the deception

planner
Yes you have stories!  I have seen and heard so many over the years.  Be careful of how far you go!
planner
In this case honey you will have more succsss going after the dealer!
rlwoodz

@planner I have no idea how to be careful when  I'm that country.  I'm told to not drive at night which I do....so there's that 🤣🤣🤣. I was staying in Bella Vista at an Airbnb and the owner told me to not go outside to smoke but instead smoke in the balcony.  I was drinking in a pool hall and one Dominican guy I know texted me and asked where are you and what are you doing. I told him I'm very drunk in a pool hall and he thought I was going to be slaughtered.  I do throw caution to the wind at times.

planner
Hajajaja.  Ok let me be specific. Remember some people are in survival mode. They are sometimes wrong and you still need to make a strategic decision on how far to push.  Push too far they will make you the bad guy and go after you.

For the other stuff - smoking is bad for you 1f923.svg1f923.svg.  Be careful where you get drunk as.it leaves you a target.  And of course many here are drama queens or kings as the case may be!

Thank you! smile.png Yes...I will be 50 next year, retired, and have been through many life lessons..Believe me my eyes are wide open!wink.png lol

            Don’t blink , lol
rlwoodz

@planner may I call you mom?  🥰

rlwoodz

@planner and drama is part of their game. It's so immature and honestly disgusting.

planner
Yes you may call me.mom, however, remember mother's day is coming!

In many ways the culture is immature. Many learn what they lived.  Education here is way way behind developed nations.  Understanding where it comes from helps.  The best advice I can offer is accept what works in your world and reject the rest.  And educate those you can!
rlwoodz

@planner what I've experienced, and to varying degrees, is an extreme form of selfishness that borders and outright encroaches into personalities that would be classified as narcissistic.  But as you said, many are in survival mode which could unleash the narcissist in any of us. However in this specific case, these people are not in survival mode. They have extreme desires for high end material products such as clothing, jewelry and other similar things. I've characterized the place as the wild-wild west with iPhones, fake Gucci and Range Rovers. It's a bizarre mentality having witnessed people living in utter shacks wearing brand name clothing appearing expensive while holding a new high end iPhone.  It's insanity in my mind.

planner
Its all illusion honey!  I have seen families living in shacks with dirt floors so dad can finance the nice vehicle!  All about the illusion of wealth!
rlwoodz

@planner their social status is of primary importance.  And they develop that with their Instagram, etc but also with their clothing which is all too often revealing. The women are highly sexualized and objectified and they themselves contribute to this as it's seemingly part of their social status.  The young we women operate their deception in groups and are in competition to gain the most from their victims.  This kind of thing is rampant in the country where I've estimated that 20% if the women there are actively engaged in what can be summarized as prostitution.  And chapiadora or advertising escort service, it's prostitution.

planner
The culture is highly sexualized, agreed.

Let's not go off topic into what is or is not prostitution.
rlwoodz

@planner ok mom 🌸.  Keep me in line ☺ï¸.

You are making me smile!

------------------------------

That 'revealing' clothing applies to the bulk of the female population.... most of whom are NOT 'hunting/fishing' for catch.

Like the bull fighting - it's a cultural thing - think 'hot blooded Latins'.....

A societal norm...
rlwoodz
@WillieWeb ok fair enough.
Is it also true with these hit blooded latins a lack of intellect because I'm telling you, having anything more than a 1st level of thought conversation with them has been entirely impossible in my experience?
planner
It depends what kind of conversation you are trying to have!   With differences in language, education,.culture etc what kind of conversation are you expecting?
rlwoodz

@planner history to include their own,  national economics,  geo-economics, investing, money management, politics, science, business to include business plans and analysis. I've tried everything even at the most basic levels.  I get nothing.

WillieWeb
Well

If you tried those topics on me as 'ice breakers'..... I'd order another drink or leave.

Have you tried starting with a compliment ??
planner
@rlwoodz. Absolutely agree. I often say find your person, understand their limitations.  Get your intellectual needs met elsewhere!  Friends, other expats, co workers etc are often better places for those discussions.

There is a disconnect often that you cannot overcome. Either accept that or understand how difficult it can be to find a partner.
planner
@Willie pretty sure he is referring to longer term conversations.  Not the greatest opening lines for sure 😂 😂😂
WillieWeb
Ya never know ............
planner
True Willie!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Not sure if this is the right place to post this continuing disturbing story which resulted in an American Executive being murdered in his rented Villa in Casa de Campo which perhaps should be one of the securest places in the country. But there are relationship lessons to be learnt........

Two men accused of killing an American in La Romana are sent to preventive detention

This story has been in the press for several days and for those who don't know the background, this single male solicited two males on an online dating site, met them in the car park outside the gated barrier entrance to CdC, took them to his Villa got robbed and murdered.

The lesson is to be very careful with whoever you date, male, female, bix or gay and especially those you meet at resorts and on online dating sites - because many are dubious characters looking for opportunities. And do not invite them to your place of residence until you know them very well indeed.

There have been several cases in recent years whereby expat men have been killed by their female partner in their residence and expat women have been killed by their male partner.

If you come to DR to date this way, you run a risk.
planner
Absolutely the right place to post this.

Important to be very very careful!
rlwoodz

@WillieWeb haha...this was over a period of a year fella. Not over a drink.

rlwoodz

@planner their minds work differently. I've not been able to figure it out. If it's not gratifying, it's of no interest. And what's gratifying are material things only. This is the best I can figure at this point and yes this was a long term problem and nothing to do with the beginnings of a relationship.

planner
Agreed honey.  So  you have to put yourself into a SURVIVAL MODE mindset to even begin to figure it out.
rlwoodz

@planner only my chapiadora was not in survival mode. Lives in a home complete with air conditioning and a garage.  Nothing luxury but livable.

planner
Maybe that's how she got all that and maintains it?

The attitude doesn't come and go. It's a way of living.
rlwoodz

@planner lives in her aunt's house with her grandmother.  It's quite a complex story. The entire scheme was to acquire money, a car and apartment. Her aunt acquired an apartment in similar fashion although that story is a bit different. But I'm certain the scheme was to acquire those things mentioned. I the endgame there were two more attempts to get apartment in her name.   I visited because the relationship was in serious trouble. I had all the proof I needed to end it without feeling I was the guilty one.  She invites me down and in their house the aunt begins to politely press me on the apartment mixed into that is how elated she is with the relationship.  I am now using the apartment as bait more or less.  Seeing how far they would go I said I'd put her as beneficiary in  life insurance policy to guarantee her security as well as a large investment account.  That wasn't good enough and the relationship continued to go bad with the chapiadora ignoring me and all that goes along with that. I had huge impression she was hiding a new relationship and she just couldn't juggle both, only asking for money which was denied.  Then one last time she goes for apartment saying "my father said apartment can be in my name"....hahahaha.  oh did he I said and said never going to happen ever. The lid was off. They totally exposed. Aunt then saw that I was onto them and totally destroyed the girl in a phone conversation. All but calling her a prostitute.  It was indeed wild.

planner
Well all of this is way too much game playing all around.

Once you even suspect it's time to move on. Why continue?
rlwoodz

@planner that's a good question and the only good answer I have is I needed to prove people can be this evil and deranged.  And I'm sure I didn't find the bottom which is why I'm still alive. I'm nearly positive the bottom is that deep. It's all a bit fascinating when viewed objectively.

planner
So your ego is in play? You needed to prove says it all.

Fascinating - maybe. Dangerous - possibly.  Waste of time energy and money - absolutely.
Siobhan222
Sheesh... this makes dating/relationships sound like extremely exhausting mental gymnastics. I know it's necessary to use intellect and be cautious but all encounters here can't be that bad... can they?
rlwoodz

@planner c'mon mom 🥲.  Had nothing to do with ego. In fact just the opposite. If it was ego driven I wouldn't have stood what was almost obvious.  I couldn't be believe people would stoop so low in what was presented as a loving relationship.  How do people do this?  What's in their DNA that's so bizarrely screwed up?  And it's in their DNA.

rlwoodz

@Siobhan222 exercise extreme caution and don't use dating sites. Is best to have trusted people present good options to you. If you're female and they ask you for money, run away. If you're male and they ask you for money in short order, run away.  If they say they love you in short order, run away and do it quickly. If they talk about sex in short order, run away.

planner
@rlwoodz you do make me smile.  Interesting conversation honey.  I don't disagree with your observations.

@siobahn222 that is good advice above.  Extreme caution here.  Dating sites give you a certain type of person.  The best way to meet good people is just through every day life,.doing what you usually do.  Keep your eyes wide open and your Spidey senses on high alert!
