Doctor Jobs in Nairobi

Post new topic

Jacko85er

Myself and my girlfriend are moving to Kenya in February.  I already have a job but she is struggling to find a point of contact to begin job hunting. She’s a Junior Doctor (General Practioner Trainee - 5 years post qualification - UK ST3 on arrival).  Does anyone know where to start with this? Ideally looking for jobs in Nairobi.

Thank you!

Why not research hospitals and clinics in Nairobi and contact them.

Your girlfriend will require a work permit and will also need to be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners & Dentists Board.  I understand that this will involve her needing to do a years internship at a public hospital, before being able to practice, but she will need a work permit to enable her to do the internship.

Unlike the UK, Kenyan public health facilities are limited and the best hospitals are private and Nairobi based (such as Aga Khan, MP Shah, Nairobi Hospital).  Public hospitals are found in most urban centres, but they tend to be less well equipped.  Kenyatta Hospital is the largest public hospital and is based in Nairobi.

Many doctors are in private practice, with their bases being in clinics or the 'Doctors Plaza'.  The same doctors work flexibly with a number of hospitals.

It used to be possible to do your internship alongside running your own practice, but things have tightened up.

There may also be scope for obtaining a temporary licence (valid for a year):

Incidentally; as you are in a relationship, rather than marriage, your girlfriend's status in Kenya will be independent of yours.
