Couple moving to Iceland mid July

Hello everybody!  Wanted some opinions on whether finding a private apartment in the Reykjavik area or applying for student housing in Keflavik would be easier for a newcomer.  Living in a guesthouse is completely out of the question.  Been there and done that before! LOL!  Any advice would be great!  Takk :)

I'm not sure which is easier but I can say that if you don't have a car, the student housing in KEF will be a very lonely place. Much of the housing is on the former US military base, which isn't very close to the town of Keflavík. You'd be a 45-50 minute drive from Reykjavík, and in the winter or on stormy days, the road is rather un-fun to drive.

additionally, the website leiga.is has come up since I wrote that and although it'll require a bit of bravery on the Icelandic front, I've had good results with it. Google translate should do a decent enough job for you to figure out what's happening on the page.
