Family fun in Ecuador during school holidays

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hello,

School holidays are fun for the kids, but parents often struggle to find ways to entertain them when they have just moved to a new country. Share with us some information about keeping the family busy during that time of the year.

What are some of the favourite activities in Ecuador that families can enjoy together?

What types of activities are more popular (indoors, outdoors) for toddlers, young children, and teenagers?

How do you balance work in Ecuador while the children are on holiday?

Are there any resources such as youth centres or expat children communities, that offer activities for children during the holidays?

How do you plan your holidays with the family in Ecuador?

Tell us about your best family adventure in in Ecuador? Is there a bucket list of must-do activities? What are they?

Thank you for sharing your experience,

Priscilla

Families partake in many activities during school-break which is this time of year in the sierra (mountains). The cheapest and most popular activities are enjoyed at local parks.
Families bring their kids to the bigger ones and spend the entire day there. Carolina park which is probably the most popular has many free activities like basketball, track, huge playground for little ones, football fields, dog playground, tennis courts, etc, etc. There is also cheap food and cheap snacks like cotton candy and ice cream so parents and kids don’t have to eat at the more costly places in this area.

As nice as it is to see families having a good time it is actually overwhelming for people who live in this area (Carolina). It’s quite challenging to jog on the track or on the perimeter of the park because of many people walking around. Quito probably needs another park like Carolina Park but in the south part of the city to lessen some of the congestion.

Museums and concerts are also popular places that residents and tourists enjoy, and many of these events are free courtesy of Quito municipality.

Football camps, swimming lessons and playing instrument courses are also popular to keep kids busy.

There’s something for everyone, but thankfully school starts soon (Sept 6), and it's time for everyone to go back to their normal routine.  :D
