Bank loans in Tunisia

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hello,

Finances and banking can sometimes be a headache for many expats, especially when it comes to taking out bank loans.

Is it difficult for an expat to get approved for a bank loan in Tunisia?

What are the types of bank loans available for expats (mortgage/bonds; business loans; car loans; personal loans; student loans)?

What are the general conditions for expats to take out bank loans (interest rates; timeframe to repay loans, etc.)?

Which bank in Tunisia is the most popular or accessible for expats regarding loans?

Would you normally require the services of an accounts manager at the bank in order to facilitate the process of taking out a loan? Is this service free of charge?

What would happen in the case of an unpaid loan if you have to repatriate back to your home country or move somewhere else?

Are there any other options for loans aside from the bank in Tunisia, such as taking out a loan from your bank in your home country, or other types of companies not affiliated with banks, that give out loans?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Dear Priscilla,

It is very difficult for a non tunisian to have a loan. To be able to have a loan with Tunisian bank, the expat have a 10 years resident card and the loan have to be paid before the end of expire date of the card.

For Mortgage it is harder, because the bank can't mortgage the real estate until the expat get his governor autorisation. So in French we say "le chien qui se mort la queue". We hope that law will change soon and expat will be able to invest and buy properties in Tunisia with more freedom.

I was allowed a bank account shared with my husband. I have just received my 2 year card, so it will be a while before I get anything as far as loans.

Ouissem, really nice to have you respond. If you could respond to my query, it would be perfect. I have money and am waiting.

What I have written doesn't negate any of that. Thanks.
