This thread was hopelessly out of date so I have removed old stuff that could confuse and will replace posts with up to date information.

What are the cities that are relatively safe and far from from natural disaster in Indonesia?

I think those are cities in Kalimantan island. We are out from Ring Fire, we don't have volcanoes,

then we don't have any earthquake. We just have a mountain with stone and hills.

And one fear in my city, it is only fire and flood :D

None for general workers, but it would be possible for specialists in management or if you start a PT PMA (Google that, but it isn't cheap)

Basically all the way from North Sumatra (west coast) all the way past Bali (I think) google ring of fire Indonesia images and gives you an idea

On the west coast of Sumatra it's very common (from first hand experience) to feel earthquake tremors at

As someone who lived through the 2004 tsunami in Banda Aceh, I’d like to share my experience. At just 13 years old, I witnessed unimaginable devastation as entire neighbourhoods were swept away and thousands of lives were lost. It was a heartbreaking tragedy, but it also brought out the resilience of the community.

In the aftermath, international aid and local solidarity helped us rebuild. Banda Aceh today stands as a testament to that resilience, with memorials like the Tsunami Museum serving as reminders of the importance of disaster preparedness.

Living through such an event taught me the value of being prepared and united in times of crisis. The emergency numbers shared in this thread are vital, and I hope they reach as many people as possible.

In the end, even if Sumatra is in the ring of fire, with lots of earthquakes, people are adapting and increasing in resilience. People are coming together as hardship occurs; as a tourist, you don't need to worry much as we have service when disaster happens now and several points for execution not like before.

If anyone has questions about life in Banda Aceh or its recovery, feel free to ask. I’m happy to share more.
