Normally in sri lanka u can stay either in employment visa or resident permit. One way to have a retain resident permit is to open a guest house. For this u must need to form a company register it as per the company act and get it registered. (You can buy a guest house which is not performing or either you can start from scratch)

Other way is to find a employment in a company where they can sponsor you for resident permit. This method will be the easiest way as far as i know. Many foreigners does this. But you must find work.

So how did you manage to get a long term visa? did you invest $250'000 and then got a Business visa? We are in the same situation as off the grid, we have decided to move to Galle as a family and have our girls in an international school but we come without jobs, lots of ideas and volunteering projects but no visa. Any recommendations? I do speak 5 languages and hope to find a job there but is it realistic?

Hi Yayasy,

You may apply for 5 star hotels as Tour guide or travel coordinator since you can speak 5 languages.

Else you can open your own tour company and coordinate with hotels and you will get commission for tours.

One more method is admit your kids for international school. So for education government must give you resident permit since your kids studying here. After that you may find a work as you like.

We will indeed enroll both our girls at Galle International College but I wasn't sure if it will be sufficient to get a resident visa? I will send my cv to different hotels and see if there is any interest.
We also would like to open a small cafe in Galle and sell italian street food and good coffee but again I think it's best to be there before making any plans....

You can get resident permit for studies. You can open a cafe in galle fort. Galle fort is a most popular tourist magnet.

Isn't the visa for students for those who go to university? do you think we can get a visa if our daughters attend an international school?

I know one family who got visa because there kids studying in a international school. They managed to get resident visa as well. As per her they have given them visa because of there kids education. I do have there contact details. Send me a private message ill share you the information. You can ask from them how did they get the resident permits.
