The must-try activities in Spain

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hello everyone,

Moving to Spain is an exciting opportunity to discover a new culture and try things you might not even have heard of before. To make sure other expats and expats-to-be do not miss a thing, would you be able to answer the following questions on activities not-to-be-missed in Spain?

What are the activities everyone must try at least once in Spain?

What are the activities that one should partake in if they want to discover the local culture?

Are there any activities that are characteristic of Spain?

Do you have an anecdote to share about any of the activities listed above?

Please share your experience,

Priscilla

By activities do you mean things to see, or things to do, or both? Anyway, SOOO many things to list. Will start with the obvious, the big tourist draws, in no particular order:
- Madrid's art museums: Prado, Reina Sofia, Thyssen, Sorolla
- Toledo: the whole upper town
- Sevilla: cathedral, Alcazar, flamenco, Semana Santa
- Barcelona: La Familia Sagrada cathedral, Parc Guell, Tibidabo, Montjuic, side trip to Dali museum in Figueres
- Granada: Alhambra, Albacin, cave dwellings, day trip to Alpujarras
- Ronda: Hike the gorge
- Valencia: beach, Las Fallas festival (March 1-19, LOTS of daily fireworks), side trip to hilltop castle in Xátiva
- Pamplona: San Fermin, aka running of the bulls (do or just watch)
- Buñol: La Tomatina tomato fight
- Bilbao: Guggenheim museum
- Cuenca: Museum of abstract art (cliffside site as well as the contents)
- Santiago de Compostela: destination of pilgrim routes

Hope this helps and that others pile on!

Hi bradyreed,

Thanks a lot for sharing. In fact it is an open topic, so that members can share their own experiences.  :)

Have a nice day,
