Legalising a child in Egypt that was born in the UK without father

Post new topic

Om Aisha

Hello All,

Am looking for any advice please and apologies in advance for the loooooong post.

I lived and worked In Sharm for 5 years (2005-2010) before falling pregnant by my Egyptian boyfriend. For a number of reasons I had to  move back to the UK to have our child (now 8yo). During this time contact has been maintained online but physically I have only seen my baby father for 2 weeks in total. I have not moved on, had any new relationship or 'gotten over' the love of my life. Finally after all these years we are going to get together, apart from anything else I want my daughter to grow up with her father in a normal mum+dad+child environment. Suffice to say, HM Immigration has not made this an easy process (he has been knocked back twice for a tourist visa to enable him to come and meet my family and see the way of life over here) but any way the plan is to live together in Cairo as tbh I have had enough of the way of life in the UK as well as being a single parent etc etc...

My question is this:

What is the process to legitimise our daughter in Egypt? I have looked into adding her fathers name to the Birth Certificate, changing my daughter name by deed poll in the UK etc but have been told by a (Russian) girl friend that actually the process is simple as all that my baby father has to do is to go to court and announce his paternity and maybe them both have a DNA test without me having to do a dance of paperwork and expense on my side. Of course I understand that the onus is on the father in all Islamic countries and therefore should be quite easy for him to manage this in his country?

(*NB we do have an Orfi/Urfi marriage certificate dated about 18months after our daughters' birth)

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. I am due to move to Cairo at the beginning of August and our daughter a month or two after this.

I'm not expert, but I think you can make a new Urfi with earlier date and stamp it with earlier date, and also I think it's easy as you said in the court, but needs  a good lawyer/
