Divorcing in Colombia

Post new topic

Diksha

Hello everyone,

Reaching the decision to seek divorce can be hard. Filing the papers as an expat in Colombia can be as taxing since a good grasp of legislations is needed and the process can prove to be tedious.

Where and how do you apply for a divorce in Colombia? How long does it take for the process to be completed?

If the couple has children, which measures can be taken in order to protect their interests?

Which procedures should be completed so that the divorce is legally recognized in the country of origin?

How is divorce viewed in Colombia?

Being away from one's home country and loved ones, what advice do have for staying strong emotionally and mentally in this situation?

Thanks for sharing your experience.

I will presume you were married in Colombia
, if so you were married at a Notary. You may go to this Notary and ask them for Divorce Information
Good Luck

If you are a foreigner do NOT get married without a PRENUPTIAL.  All attorneys have them.....they are called CONTRATO DE CAPITULACION or something similar.  The attorney will know.

I married a Caleña and three weeks later I divorced her.........She lied about many things with me prior.  I also did NOT take out a marriage license, but we were married by the pastor, who agreed to marry us,  without it.
