San Francisco Consulate Wants Financial Guarantor

Hello, I have read on another site the article Demystifying the Paper Trail by Susan Stults Korthase in which she says that the SF Consulate is now requiring a financial guarantor to be submitted with the visa application, even though you have the financial means to qualify for the visa.
聽 While this seems excessive, I am wondering if anyone on this forum has had to deal with this, and how they did it, perhaps a lawyer of someone willing to write a letter?聽 Please understand I am not talking about someone to represent you for the NIF.聽 Apparently, this is someone willing to vouch for you financially for the year you would spend in Portugal.

thank you for any help, as I'm trying to touch all possible bases before submitting my paperwork.

I suspect this is old information. My advice to everyone is always, ignore what you read on the expat sites. The rules change frequently and one is true for one consulate is not true for another. What is true for one person's personal situation will differ from another. Get yourself a really good expeditor (not a lawyer). For the price of 150-600 euros depending on who you hire, you will have peace of mind of knowing you are not going to be guessing about what you need and don't need.
