Playa Nueva Romana

Post new topic

I am sure many of us have driven past the impressive curved entrance wall and gatehouse for Playa Nueva Romana whilst driving eastwards between San Pedro de Macoris and La Romana and thought nothing more than that's another real estate development in progress.

I did until earlier this year when the stories of illnesses and deaths at DR All Inclusive hotels hit the headlines in the US Press. A couple of such instances occurred at the Spanish owned Pinero Bahia Principe Group hotels in Nueva La Romana which owns some prestigious hotels in DR and other countries.

With the low season here and reported discounted AI offers in Punta Cana, I have been looking for a good weekend deal to get out of the city and found 40% discounted prices booking direct with the Bahia group at their Nueva Romana Adults Only AI. So I decided to go sample the insecticide infested gardens and poisoned minibars lol.

Looking into this more, the real estate associated with this development beyond the hotels looks interesting mindful of the location so relatively close to Santo Domingo compared to Punta Cana with SPM and La Romana so close too. Two international airports are within about half hour driving too.

Perhaps, too often, expats home in on the North Coast and Punta Cana for their retirement destination at the expense of other destinations, is my immediate thought. Maybe I will have a better idea after my short break but probably I will have a better idea of the beach zone rather than villa and golf  areas.

I would be interested to hear other opinions especially from Riva who lives in San Pedro and Steverino7777 who is in real estate in this part of the country.

I was there about 3 years ago and enjoyed the hotel.

The project is very nice.  I like the proximity to both La Romana and it's a full hour from Santo Domingo.

What I don't like is that nothing is really close.  Pop out to the grocery store or colmado - not really. Live there and want to go dancing - you have to get out on the highway.

It's got golf, beach club, tennis courts, polo pitch,  they we're building a school, clinic etc so lots of pluses.

I need to go back and take a look around again!

Let us know how you like it!

Hello Lennoxnev,

I have driven by Playa Nueva Romana on many occasions on my way from Casa de Campo to Santo Domingo. I have not been in this particular development.  I remember the media reports last spring concerning the deaths of tourists at this facility.

I am interested to hear what you have to say after your visit.  The satellite imagery of this development indicates that significant investment has been poured into roads, sewers and services. However, villa construction appears limited throughout the residential areas with large swaths of vacant neighbourhoods, similar to Cap Cana.

Can you tell us what the discount price for a weekend there is?

The Bahia Principe website has per person  prices discounted more than the online portals and include taxes.

For us the reduced drive time from the capital compared to Punta Cana where there are some good deals was important. As was visiting a new resort area.

Ive just arrived for a weekend stay at Bouganvilla. First impressions are great as one would expect with Bahia Principe.

The impression you get driving down towards the hotels is encouraging. Some nice modern villa styles. Nice avenues. Secluded. Medical Centre.

Time to enjoy.

More later.

Despite the bad publicity earlier this year implicating the hotels here, the occupancy in the family and adult only hotels looks high for low season. Busy. The clientelle are largely European and been good for me to chat with Brits
Clearly there are some good deals on the market in places like UK now. A late UK booker got 14 days plus flight at Bouganville for 750gbp which is a super deal. The quality of food is top drawer and you get premium drinks included. Just wish I could get such a deal from DR.
This is a lovely horse shoe beach with two premium hotels new modern beach apartments and beach club within in sight of the city.
Best value are the resort staff. Locals from La Romana and San Pedro.
I reckon pugy has invested wisely. This place gives you CDC wibes in the making but with a better beach.

I never been in the Hotel but I have friends that stayed there 2 years ago and they loved, also the hotel has good reviews, I took a tour to Isla Saona and the bus stoped there to pick up people the place is really big, and the villas looks very nice and modern.  As planner says if you want to go out places wont be very close, but  the location of the project is good, close to Santo Domingo that has more regular flights than La Romana, so I think if you are the kind of people that want to rest that would be nice place.
