First month in Saudi - salary payment (no Iqama)

Post new topic

I have recently arrived in Saudi and started work. For my first payments (as I can't open a local account until I've got my Iqama) I have the option of being paid directly to my UK bank account or receiving a cheque, both in SAR. My bank will have a max charge of £7 for this transaction but the exchange rate they will give me will be unfavorable. Anyone had to get round this, what options do I have if being paid by cheque?

The only option you have around a cheque, is to have someone cash it for you. I don't think Saudi Banks will let you cash it based on your passport only. I might be wrong though, so other opinions might be useful.

Most people get the cheque issued in someone's name and have it cashed to get the money handed over to them.  Banks most probably will not cash it if it is in your name and you don't have an Iqama yet.
