Stimulus Payment Information for US Citizens

That's the way the system works to prevent fraud. First return submitted for your SS# for a given year locks future return submissions out. If you need to change a return that you already submitted, then you have to do that with a 1040x amended return. That must be done in hard copy and snail mailed and then it takes at least until August to process.

Conversely, if you submit your return and get an error message stating that a return has already been submitted and you did not submit it...just imagine your horror. Most people using other people's SS# never bother to submit a return  :D   you just find out you have a lot of mystery earnings that you have to give an account for.

I'm going to wait to see, my ss direct deposit is Wednesday April 15th. It varies from month to month, its always the third Wednesday at our "AFTER"  April 15.

My problem,  they do have my direct deposit info from SS. But, I did not file a tax a return for 2018, I always file jointly, but my wife does not collect ss so no stimulus money for her yet.

It's been suggested that I file with one of the popular online tax companies, but I really don't want to spend $60 for a simple return which I can do myself.

I'm hoping that the government portal (whenever it is up and running) will allow me to file for 2018. But with previous posts I'm concerned I may be locked down if I do this before my first stimulus deposit arrives via my ss info.

If the government doesn't screw up, then I will for sure.

I'm not sure that is what is happening with the TurboTax Stimulus entries.  They ask you to enter information from your already submitted 2018 return.  They then ask for any updated direct deposit information.  I just tried again and got a different error which more closely says what you said.
More likely, for this purpose as opposed to a return modification. a return locks out previous returns.  TurboTax asks if you have already filed the 2019 return.
So I guess I don't understand the purpose of the TurboTax Stimulus filing.
Apparently, if you filed a 2018 or 2019 return already, this won't work.  If you haven't, you must file a return with the correct info.

The site for putting in bank data is up.

There are two options

The option for those who have not filed and are not required to file is the one that is operational now. Non Filers

"Get My Payment" is for those who have filed a return. It comes online next week.

scammers will be out in force

Just got an email from Nationwide, my car insurance people, telling me anyone who had car insurance with them as of 3/31/20 will be getting a $50 rebate.  Claim they know people are driving less.  I have not driven my car since 10/24/19, but must maintain my insurance even when out of town for 6 months.

The web portal is now live for both people who filed and did not give the direct deposit info and for those, like me, that had to pay and thus had not entered bank info.

My $1200 was deposited last night here in US, was in my Ckg account this morning. Because of the virus situation and potential uncertainties I had my 2019 taxes done early this year - mid Feb. Always use direct payment and deposit with IRS so I can do them from PI.

Mugtech, I suspend my vehicle insurance for the car and motorcycle when I am in Philippines, leaving only Comp coverage in force.. My State Farm agent is happy to do this. It drops it down to almost nothing, saving well over $100/mo.

I keep the minimum required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, liability only.

My normal ss check was direct deposited yesrterday, but no stimulus check.

I did not have a need to file in 2018, but the treasury knows my bank info for ss. I'll give it a little more time, if looks like no stimulus deposit then I'll use the on site method.

I don't want to make an enigma for myself, since my wife doesn't get ss, but we've filed jointly for 10 years.

Note: My check is normally deposited at midnight without fail for years, yesterday it was hours late.
I already have transferred a portion into my BDO account.

No stimulus check for me yet. I did file 2018 but no direct deposit info sought by H&R Block online
due to no refunds. SSA has my direct deposit info so I´ll wait a little. If no action till the 26th I´ll also
probably use their online tool to inform them of my DD info.

I went on the stimulus check status site on IRS website and it said that us SSA-1099 peoples info is not available yet so looks like we won't see money until all the tax filers have theirs in their accounts! I get paid on the 4th wednesdays so will see if I get both this coming week!

the site says if you get SSA they will use your SSA-1099 info!

mugtech

Get My Payment, the IRS tool to check your stimulus progress is supposedly now available, gets updated once a day, usually overnight DC time.  Asking people to only use it once a day because it is so popular, lotta people got nothin better to do.

GuestPoster285

I even thought it might become a collector´s item someday and become valuable and could get auctioned off. Do US Treasury checks has expiration dates or remains a promissory note by the US govt indefinitely?

mugtech

Thinking they expire in 90 days.

AaronAardvark

For some reason, I got my SSA payment 5 days early and no stimulus amount included.

I used the online IRS stimulus tool to register my check account info.  It only asked for my info even though I filed jointly.  When the wife attempted to do it with her info, it said the money would go to my account.  When I actually got refunds, I was always able to split the refund any way I wanted into 2 different account.  Having it go to only one account might be a problem for some.

Agreed.

Off topic but: Regardless of leader or country, history and voters will sort it out after the dust settles, one has to remember that we are observers and not in the firing line so perhaps we should get back to the crux of the thread and stay on topic. OMO.

Cheers, Steve.

If you're not getting a refund and have SSA they are sending out paper check! So much for filing early!

The Treasury stated that they want to send stimulus payments by direct deposit as a preference. If
someone already receive SSA payments by DD they should be able to receive the stimulus pmts
directly to their bank accounts as they planned all along to coordinate their efforts with SSA and the VA-if you also receive veteran´s compensation by direct deposit. Those who don´t have bank accounts
will receive a check. If you changed address it´s best to update your address with the post office.

From my Bank yesterday.

Stimulus checks are being direct deposited in three phases.  The first began on the 10th of April.  The second on the 17th and the third on the 24th.

lonepine

IRS wouldn't deposit stimulus money in a foreign bank.  Can't figure out how to cash these checks.  Has anyone been able to cash these checks when do not have a USA Bank

lonepine

They expire in a year
