Considering moving to Mauritius

Post new topic

Lucien Strydom

Hello Everyone,

Trust you are all well.

Need some advise please.

We are looking to move to Mauritius in the foreseeable future.

I run a telecommunications company as well as an accounting/bookkeeping practice in Gauteng South Africa. I am looking to open an office and focus on Telecommunications within Mauritius and work with existing suppliers of Telecoms products within Mauritius' market, and move my family as well. So our residence will be Mauritius. I will be commuting back and forth to South Africa for my existing clients.

I need help and advise as too who I can speak to for information on the following topics;

1. Policies and procedures to make the move to Mauritius; Residence and working permits etc. Can this be done without going through immigration agents that charge an arm and a leg?
2. Who can I speak to regarding registering a company in Mauritius to trade;
3. Understanding lifestyle costs vs South Africa;
4. Real estate agents to help us find homes;
5. Education for my kids. Daughter is turning 4 and baby boy a couple of months old;
6. Business forums I can belong too;
7. Speaking to other ex-South Africans to understand challenges they went through.

These are some of the topics I need help on. I am sure further questions will come up as I go along. I also understand this is not a simple exercise, however, I would prefer to speak to someone with experience of the above.

Thanking you all.

Hi Lucien,

I see you have very valuable info from others- and you will find life in Mauritius to be very pleasant indeed.

1. Policies and procedures to make the move to Mauritius; Residence and working permits etc. Can this be done without going through immigration agents that charge an arm and a leg?
Yes, indeed- the EDB (Economic Development Board) are very helpful

2. Who can I speak to regarding registering a company in Mauritius to trade;
The Mauritius Registrar of Companies in very helpful and it is efficient in registering a company. On their website, they provide you with info of what papers you need to present them in order to proceed

3. Understanding lifestyle costs vs South Africa;
It depends on what you are looking for but in general it is more expensive here (food, drinks, clothes, activities...…)
4. Real estate agents to help us find homes;
Park Lane Properties has many years of experience in relocating and assisting foreigners from A-Z in their move.
5. Education for my kids. Daughter is turning 4 and baby boy a couple of months old;
If you choose to live in the West, Tiny Tots Day Care and Telfair International Primary School are highly recommended
6. Business forums I can belong too;
½ûÂþÌìÌà organizes business networking events which may be helpful
7. Speaking to other ex-South Africans to understand challenges they went through.
You can go on the facebook group South Africans relocating to Mauritius which may be helpful. You will meet a lot here too, especially in the west coast. ***
Good luck!
