Hello everyone!

My name is Dafne, I'm an italian, born in Germany, and I've been living in UK for the past 6 years. I've achieved a Bachelor of Art's Degree and GCSE in Maths, English literature and language and Biology.

To teach in Sweden, besides knowing the language very well (which I'm already studying), what other qualifications do I need?

Is PGCE in education or Diploma in Education accepted and recognised in Sweden?

Thank you

Hello, Here you can read everything you need to know by yourself from the National Agency of Education in Sweden

I didn't read through the link, if that is not stated there, in Sweden every professional who works with children must provide an extract from the criminal record, a category one police record. You will be needed one.

If you are interested to know I can tell you about two teachers in Sweden with totally different qualifications regardless of whatever it is stated in the website above.

Teacher number one will complete her degree from Stockholm university by approx this time next year. Now half of her studying time she spends in a classroom in a school as an assistant teacher and other half at the university. Fridays she is off from all the studies  so what she does on Fridays is working as a teacher since she is basically already qualified to work as a teacher according to the school management of that school.

Teacher number two never went to any higher education institute. She completed her high school studies, then worked for sometime as a healthcare personnel and then moved to her father in Australia. There she started to learn English language properly but worked in another field for some years and then came back to Sweden for a timeout. While in the timeout she applied for fun for an urgent short term vacancy as an English language teacher at a government primary school. Since Sweden was in a huge shortage of university qualified teachers at that time, they decided to hire her just to fill the vacancy for the time being and then she found out that she has a some kind of a born talent to teach, they saw it too and decided to extend her agreement for another short period and eventually she became secured in her position as an English language teacher in primary school level in Sweden without having any kind of diploma or special pedagogy training at all.

Teacher number one is my elder daughter and number two is my niece. So now you know how it practically goes too. Don't hesitate to come back to us if you find anything unclear in the website above. Cheers!
