Sending money to family in Pokhara

I would like to know if there is a dependable way to send money to a family in Pokhara. Western Union? Moneygram? I, obviously, dont want the money to go "missing".

I recently had money wired to me through western union. I was given the true exchange rate and paid $8. It was easy and fast. I compared all the major players in wires and it was the most economical.

Banks often aren’t the best deal. My bank would have wired me for “free” with an exchange rate that cost me US $145. The receiving bank often charges and attaches fees too.

If you use a different company or your bank check:

-what is the exchange rate, is it locked in?
-what are the fees to send?
-any fees to receive?
-do they offer notifications for when money is sent, ready, picked up? (For tracking purposes.)
-do they offer customer service? A phone number to talk to a representative live?

TransferWise, banks, other apps and companies often have hidden fees or get you with the exchange rate. Some charge a fee or a percentage fee according to the amount you send. Some give poor exchange rates. Some receiving banks meddle with exchange rates and attach fees.

Thank you for the very informative post. I will consider WU.

I have sent money via Western Union to Nepal with no issues.

Is it safe to send money from the USA to Nepal using WU?  The answer is Yes.
Is it fast and reliable to send money worldwide using WU? Also Yes and faster than any bank2bank transfer
From experience, I would say that those are not the issues.
My bone of contention with WU would be over cost, in other words how many rupees did that money transfer company charge at the RECEIVING END for their service when they handed over the rupee cash amount to your Nepalese beneficiary? I suggest you ask your Nepali family.
For your information, the current exchange rate for the USD into NRS is a shade under 120
I therefore suggest that you ask your Nepalese party how much - what RATE - he actually received from WU when he went to collect the money??
While I realize that WU has to earn a profit, I think you will find that this "hidden cost" paid at this end is no bargain,
