A question for the ladies

IÂ’m going through my wardrobe trying to decide what to bring to Cairo. IÂ’m a teacher, so IÂ’ll need to bring items acceptable for the classroom as well as casual wear. I know I should dress conservatively, but IÂ’m having difficulties deciding which items in my wardrobe are conservative by Egyptian standards. Would knee length skirts, three quarter length sleeve shirts, or capri pants be considered too provocative? Thanks for the help! :)

don't worry too much, but you should understand that the standards change quickly from one area to another. also you should be more conservative on the street than the classroom. you can always be safe with jeans and conservative tops, things that are casual.

hope you arrive safe and enjoy your experience.

Hi,

You should be okay with what you've mentioned already. The general advice is that legs should be covered up to the knees - three-quarter length sleeve shirts are fine and not at all provocative. In terms of your work, they may have their own dress rules, and although I work for a British company teaching majority Egyptian students, they still stipulate that above the knees is a no-no, but showing arms is okay as long at the shoulders are covered.

I hope that helps. :)

I guess Charterbg and The Londoner have given u all the information u need regarding the way to dress. However, I do advise u to disscuss that with ur school cos I've worked in some schools that did not allow skirts unless they were long and others that r ok with almost any way of dressing.

Hope u have a great time here and when u get here maybe u could contact me and some of the other teachers to give u some advise about schools, colleges, parents and school administrations.

Good Luck
