Car (import duties& tax& registration fees) Douala

Joe car

Hello,
I am an expat that has a lot of questions on car imports to Cameroon. I have tried asking a few transitors about the price but they give me prices that are very expensive.
Any help would be much appreciated!
1. How much is the car duties & registration & tax for cars in Cameroon.

Does it depend on age, price purchased (I heard of something called CIVIO?) , cc’s ?

For example.
1.Toyota hilux 2008 2.7l diesel 4x4 purchased for €4000 around 3,000,000 xaf

Example 2. Toyota Yaris 2002 1l petrol purchased for €500 around 400,000 Xaf

What would be the price on that?

2.Does the car have to be left hand drive to be driven in Cameroon?

3.what is the exact process of clearing a car from arrival to out of the port?

4.I have seen cars with black plates and orange plates what is the difference?

Thanks joe

Hey Joe,
Cameroon is a weird country for business, which means the cost is relative even if the book say something else .You can even negotiate your own price when you're front of the custom, and be careful of the scam. There is a new law applied  in Camerooun from February 2019 that charged you more than 100% for cars older than 10 years. The bluebook in which the customs check the prices are not update etc..

CIVIO is a document given by SGS I guess your familiar with that word.. for cars you can call it Civio or civic as well as SGS. Is just a document which shows exactly what you the importer or experter is importing or exporting. And yes the duties are considered by the ages of the vehicles.
