Introduction and looking for information regarding RN jobs in Belize

Post new topic

Hello everyone, I am very excited to be on expat. I currently live near Atlanta, Georgia. I am an RN with a major hospital system in Atlanta.
I have joined expat.com to research an exit strategy for leaving the US.
I am looking for information regarding RN jobs in Belize.
Thank you, and God bless.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but getting a position in Belize as an RN would be difficult, and would not pay anything like the US/Canada. You would need to obtain a work-permit and be 'more qualified' than a Belizean RN for a particular position, or you would need to be recruited by a Belizean health care facility. If you could start a business and employ Belizeans, it would be easier. You can go here for more specific information -
Most US/Canadians relocating to Belize are retiring. The best option is to create a business.

Thank you for the information and the link

Thank you for that information. I am a qualified Advanced nurse practitioner in the UK but I decided to come to Belize to retire (early) instead of working- seems very difficult to work there as a foreign Nurse.

Yes, if you could start a business - based around your skills - employing Belizeans, this would be the best track to a fulfilling expat experience in Belize.

There will be opportunities for you, especially in the post-pandemic world. Outline a business plan; visit BELTRAIDE ( ) and learn of possibilities. Your skills are valuable anywhere/ everywhere.  But if you are simply looking for a job, you must understand that Belize's job market is for Belizeans.

Best of luck!

the problems regarding employment have been fully explained.. However is it possible to get a training/instructor qualification?  it could open an employment door, or give  scope for running an agency.    good luck,

karenjoe

I think that could be an excellent option. After verification, they would accept US/Canada/UK credentials.

Hi there!  I am new to this whole expat.com thing, but I did want to tell you what I have read doing my job searches.  I am an RN as well, and there are only a handful, and I mean maybe 3, which would accept an RN from the US without any local licenses, or specialized training.  As well, you generally have to apply through the country's government for a permit to practice.  If you go through a travel nursing company, you will have much better luck finding a nursing job, as they can assist with Visas, and other formalities.
To work in the UK, you have to petition the Nursing & Midwifery Council.  Also, you must have a work visa for most any country, and the facility you will be working will usually starts that petition.  Unfortunately, for me anyway, most all countries require you to pass a language proficiency exam.  Some also want you to take their equivalent of our state boards.
Best of luck to you, and let me know if you find out anything good!  Safe travels!!

Not likely. Very strict work regulations and little opportunity.
