Hi Everyone, my name is Shahab Awan. I am 58 years of age, a Pakistani with British nationality and have been a resident in London UK for over 40 years. I am married with 4 children aged 5, 8 (twins) and 13.
Although well settled in UK for many years My wife and I have been thinking of settling in Pakistan. It’s naturally a massive decision as we would need to sell property and relocate permanently, however we have strong family ties in Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Muree so feel confident, albeit apprehensive about the move.
Over the past few years we have managed to build a large house in Rawalpindi which we use whenever we travel to Pakistan, usually once or twice a year.
Our aim is to sell our property in London and hopefully purchase a house in Islamabad or Bahria and use some of our money to perhaps start a business. I have some guaranteed regular income from London so the plan is to retire in Pakistan; the business idea more for keeping occupied than a real necessity.
We feel our biggest challenge will be the children settling in schools...fortunately they all speak decent Urdu, and of course are fluent in English.
Hoping I will get some useful feedback and advice from friends who may have taken the steps that we’re planning to take in the coming 12 months

Salam Dear. You should write more about it.This is very little information.
Hi all,
I have just joined this forum.
My name is Zain and I was born in the UK.
I am currently considering moving to Karachi as I have family there (but many also in the UK).
I am a Head Teacher and have completed my BA Hons, MA Ed, PGCE and NPQH.
Looking forward to meeting and hearing from all the wonderful people on this forum as I have been reading the many posts by the members.
Thanks.
Why are you moving to Karachi? Karachi has been kept unsafe under a plan. There is no law enforcement situation. Besides, there is a traffic jam and sewerage system. And there is bad and non-pickable garbage that stinks

Hi Kausar,
Good question, I am still exploring my options.
Are you saying that I should avoid Karachi is particular or generally Pakistan. I have also considered Istanbul, which is really closer to home. However, the climates are very similar to the UK.
Saying that, Pakistan summers are very hot also.
I have read on the forum many people considering Lahore and Islamabad. However, my key reason for Karachi was due to having family members there.
Any suggestions are welcome as I am completely open to suggestions and advices at the moment.
Thanks

I think you should look for options in Islamabad.
Traveling to Karachi is not too difficult now with nicer roads. you can always go and see your relatives.
Islamabad is fairly Safe, Clean and has better weathers. Yes its hot in summers but that doesn't last longer like it does in Karachi.
And there are many options to explore around Islamabad. Specially the north.
If you are thinking of any other city in Pakistan then your thinking is good
Hi Zain,
I am also from UK, and planning to move permanently to Pakistan in the coming year or so. I think having family in a city is a big plus for someone who is from abroad, however if you’re familiar with the language and culture settling in any new city should be ok. I prefer Islamabad to Karachi as, in my opinion, is much calmer, cleaner and safer....although Karachi’s hustle bustle does have its own attraction

Thanks Faysal for your reply.
I am looking at Islamabad as many people are suggesting this.
Are there specific areas in Islamabad that you would suggest? Or is there like an area where Expats usually tend to be inclined towards?
I was looking at properties in Islamabad and there are some beautiful ones. Looking at the areas I can see similarities in that of those in Karachi. I would assume that DHA etc would again be a high-end area?
Also, is Bahria being newly developed like it is in Karachi?
Thanks

Hi Shahab,
Thanks for your reply. I looked at your previous post and we have children around the same age. So the experience will again be similar.
Is there any particular reason that you are not moving to Rawalpindi despite having built a house there?
When discussing a move to Pakistan, I usually get two cities as best options, Islamabad and Lahore.
I have travelled to many places in Pakistan as a family holiday when I was young. However, that was some time back and things have changed since then and my experience of those cities are now vivid.
I would love to go to Pakistan, post Covid-19 and explore Islamabad a little more.
Any particular areas that you're looking at in terms of housing?
I'm in a similar position to you also, I have the income from the UK to support me but would definitely look into a business or some flexible job that would keep me busy and occupied.
Look forward to hearing from you and hope you have a great success in your venture.
Regards
Zain

I think most Expats would opt for Behria Town and yes It is like the one in Karachi.
I would recommend you to settle somewhere in Behria Golf City on Murree road.
its way more scenic and not too far from the main city of Islamabad.

Thanks again,
I have been looking at some properties and also some areas. Exploring life in Islamabad as well as the atmosphere in the evenings and things to do for families as well as children.
I plan to visit Pakistan in the near future when it is removed off the UK's "red list"
Regards
Take me with you as a guide I also run social media We will be famous all over the world but you should have a good laptop
By the way, I have not banned you from Karachi permanently. I want you not to be mentally disturbed. That is why I gave such advice, but you thought of visiting the whole of Pakistan
By the way, you seem to be getting along a lot. I mean, you are getting along
I am actually not sure if this letter will get to you. I am a lecturer at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri. I have actually been longing for international academic exposure.
Recently, the management of Iqra University, Pakistan is giving me a lecturing offer. From the consultations I made here, there so so many discouragement from taking the offer on grounds of unsafe working environment in Pakistan and religious non-tolerance.
I however earnestly seek your counsel in this regard. Looking forward to your quick response.

Hi all,
Thanks for all your previous help. I'm still exploring and looking at visiting Pakistan post Covid-19 restrictions.
I have decided my plan of action: Hopefully, I first intend to come to Islamabad and explore the areas and get a feel of the atmosphere, areas and life in general. I know this will be very different from a "tourist" point of view as opposed to someone who is settling there.
I then hopefully intend to spend some extended time in the city over the following year which will allow us to make a more informed decision.
I'm still looking to buy a property nonetheless. My primary search has been in Bahria town but I have been doing some generic searches.
I came across this:
Can anyone comment on this in terms of area, facilities etc. It looks amazing, but seeing is believing.
Thanks.
Zain
