Hi! I am visiting the island and interviewing for a job while there. I currently live in Nashville TN and am coming for a few weeks to get a feel of "living" there before accepting the offer. I would be so interested in connecting with other expats while I am vacaying in town- June 1-20.

I’m hoping to figure out moving here. Currently living in Texas. Biggest hurdle is that I’m a mom of 7, and while my oldest is in college, I would still have a lot of kiddos that would be in private school.
However, hoping my husband will secure the position in his job to where he travels, so that home base cans be with us in the islands.
Hoping to hear favorite communities for those with larger families. Also, if anyone knows well paying resorts for teaching yoga. And if you have favorite schools. Will likely make a post about each one a bit later. Here on the island currently, but leaving today and my heart is crushed.

Hi! My name is Dana - my boyfriend and I just returned from a trip to TCI and we fell in love with it. We're actively trying to gather research to move there next year, so I'm grateful to find this forum (even though there doesn't seem to be a lot of activity - hopefully we can change that!).
We are looking into PRC through investment in real estate, and it seems that most times that doesn't come with a work permit. I will likely be working remotely either as self-employed or for a US company... in that case, I'm assuming I wouldn't need a work permit since I'm not working for TCI companies, does anyone have insight on this? Additionally I saw another poster mention that mortgages she has researched only cover 50% of the property - can anyone shed light on that as well?

From the crazy amount of research I have done, it is in fact 50% down and it seems private investors can choose to cover the other 50%. That limits your options, clearly, if you haven’t saved up. There seem to be some decent apartments you can rent, or buy cheaper, then save and upgrade later.
As for permits for working and living there, there are a few posts on here about them, but if you go to the main TCI website, it can inform you on all the visas and the best one for you. You won’t need a work permit for working there, if you are working for a US company, but you will still need to be approved for the correct visa.
Sorry I’m not more helpful, but we are still in the process of saving to move out there. Knowing the area I want to live in, I have to save a few more years to make that move. Best of luck! We fell in love when we visited in August and are returning in February!

if you're looking at PRC in provo that's a $1.5m investment and invest TCI or other lawyers on island can help you through the process.
at times PRC does come with the right to work, but it depends on your circumstances. if you arent taking on work in the TCI I don't believe you would need a WP and you could be endorsed on your partners PRC or vice versa.
mortgages on island are between 6-8% interest and require a significant sum down, I would instead look to see if your current lender (if you have one) would be willing to finance a second home.

As for a work permit, it seems from my research and this group that I likely won't need one, as I would be employed by a US company - either a larger company or self-employed under my own company. @heatherelise, you mentioned needing the correct visa though... the only visa/immigration options I'm seeing to stay long-term are either:
1. Work permit (self employed, freelancer, or sponsored by a company who posted the role and can't fill it with an islander)
2. PRC (with or without a work permit) which is $1MM investment in real estate, $1.5MM investment in a business, or other areas where we won't qualify (10 year residency, primary/secondary school, islander relatives, etc.)
3. Temporary residence permit: $500K investment in real estate and must be renewed annually (but may or may not be renewed by the government)
Am I missing anything? I'm assuming "self employed" for the work permit is only if your business is registered in TCI, not the US - is that your understanding as well? Also, does anyone happen to know the circumstances that they would issue a PRC with the right to work? I've seen essentially that it happens sometimes, but no specifics as to what qualifies you or doesn't.
Additionally, visitor visas are for 90 days & state they can be extended. Does anyone know how long they can be extended for, and if there are any qualifications for the extension?
@skip84, thank you for the advice to check with my current lender in the US. I will definitely look into that! Is it common for US lenders to provide mortgages for homes outside of the United States?

annual residency permit you don't require real estate to obtain just means to support yourself.
It is common for any lender to provide a mortgage secured on local real estate i.e. in the country of your primary residence, then assist you with a holiday home or similar in a different jurisdiction.
visitor visa's CAN beup to 90 days but it isn't freely given and you need to have a flight booked to leave on entry. it "may" be extended up to 6 months as I understand... in practice that is pretty rare and it is super rare to get 90 days on first application.
