Pet relocation: Which company is the best to use from SA to MRU

Post new topic

Hi!

I am relocating a cat from Cape Town to Mauritius, but I am living in Germany at the moment and handling all the logistics from here.  I have done some research as to which company to use and read many reviews, but still find myself worrying about making the correct choice.

Could any of you lovely South Africans that have gone through this, kindly inform me as to which pet moving company has the best experience when it comes to the well-being of animals.  The quarantine period in MRU is already so bloody long and the last thing I want is to have a traumatic travel experience for my child.

So far, I find myself leaning more towards Global Paws, however their prices seem much higher, but is that because they are better?

I will appreciate any feedback from you guys.

Many thanks
NF

Hi

I have used Pet Port to bring cat from Cape Town to Maun in Botswana.  Another option for you to look at.  We plan to move our cats from Botswana to South Africa and then on to Mauritius in December, so keen to hear how you get on!  Natasha

Thanks Natasha!  How was your experience with Pet Port?  Did you encounter any issues or hidden costs?  Most importantly, how did you babies handle it?

Hi, Well i had one male cat sent with them.  Spent a few nights in Cape Town with them, they then put him on SA Airlink from Cape Town to Johanensburg and then back to Cape Town to overnight and then onto correct flight from Cape Town to Maun in Botswana... other than that I had no issues!  Cat still fat and happy with me here.  I now have three to get to the island!  So do let me know how you get on :)

Hi Fae & Tash,

watch this video - about 3:25 in, Lucy explains about Pet Relocation

cost-wise, there is an estimate of about Rs 50 000 for 1 animal to Rs 100 000 for 3 animals !

these posts suggest using Global Paws on your side
and Mr Hurry Sunil +23052568113 comes highly recommended on the Mauritius side - you'll see his name come up time and again on this forum:

Thank you, again!

GuestPoster305

Thank you, that is awesome!  Thanks Ceresiet!

I have been working with Mr Hurry for my two cats coming from Germany and now working on getting my boy from SA to reunite with me in MRU.  Sucks that I have to handle all the logistics from Germany, but that is why I want the best company for the job.

This helps a lot!

Perfect, thanks!  I am aware of this as I have already started the process for my two cats in Germany.  offers a pet passport for every country and their information is up to date and it has helped me a lot as in the beginning I was going to take my cats as excess luggage from Germany, but with the new covid rules the animals must travel by cargo only.

Thanks so much for all the advice.

Pet import - possible curve ball regarding the Premium Visa

On the 4th of January 2021, I asked whether we can import our pets on a Premium Visa and the response was yes, however on the same day the information had been updated and I have only noticed now that the conditions have changed;

"Non-resident pet owners need to seek approval for Residence Permit before bringing their pet to Mauritius. Once the permit is obtained, the following procedures need to be followed for pet relocation."

So I have now emailed the Division of Veterinary Service to get a direct answer from them.

If this is the case and we can't bring our pets with us on a Premium Visa, we won't be seeing Mauritius quite so soon.

If anyone has additional information that may help, that would be much appreciated.

Have a good one!

Thanks for sharing, good to now.  Look forward to your update if you get one.  Natasha

I have had a response from hpd@edbmauritius.org (Premium Visa Portal) but nothing from the Division of Veterinary Services, even after trying to talk to them via telephone.

According to the Premium Visa Portal you are allowed to import your pets to Mauritius with a Premium Visa, so for the time being, I am just going to stick to my plan and hope that everything works out.

If anyone does have light to shed on this matter, please do so ;)

Vielen Dank as the Germans say :)
