Adopting a cat in Paris

Post new topic

SmVe

Hi fellow expats!

I was hoping to adopt a kitten or cat.

1. Can anyone recommend a pet shelter in Paris that could help? I wanted to specifically look for ones where they can speak English.
2. Would you know the process here in Paris? I am assuming lots of paperwork as goes with everything else here.
3. A bit of a background, I have never had a pet before. Would that be a challenge in getting along with the cat?
4. Additional question for cat parents in the group - do you think its better for a first time cat parent to adopt a kitten or a cat?

Hi thanks for your question, i’m actually looking to do the same thing but similarly I’m not too sure of the process yet. If you are interested, we can shortlist some places to go and view the cats at the adoption center together!

My adult daughter has a couple of cats and she lives in Paris. I've asked her about cat shelters and will let you know what she says.

@Shill88: Thank you so much! Will be so helpful :)

Sure thing! Do you speak French btw?

Hello again!

My daughter contacted a few cat shelters but found that they are rude and unfriendly. They also require documentation in order to adopt as well as information concerning your salary, living conditions etc. My suggestion is to just look on Leboncoin or google them and contact them directly.

You can look at Orfelins:

My daughter just called Orfelins and they ask that you look on their website and see if you are interested or send them an email. They said to mention that you need someone English speaking and they will try to arrange it.

You can also contact the SPA as they are the largest shelter in France. They euthanize non-adopted animals there, so you might get more lucky and they might be less fussy about documentation etc.

Try also the SPA:

Thank you so much. This is super helpful and I appreciate the extra effort you took for me!! Will check both Orfelins and SPA. 😊
