Post new topic

Does anyone know if there are rules and regulations around doing B2B direct mailers?
So physical mailers, postcards, flyers etc not email

In Vietnam?  I honestly haven't seen a single piece of physical mail in my 2+ years of living here for me or my VN wife.  I don't know if it even exists.

All forms of advertising are heavily regulated in Vietnam. You probably have to submit the actual flyer to your local authority and get the content approved before distribution. I would check with them before doing anything.

As for direct mailers, I haven't seen them go through the post office as it may be costly and would require a database. I have seen people walking door to door and physically handing flyers out. I also seen them stand at intersections and hand them out to people waiting for the light.

Again, check with your local government for direction. You wouldn't want to be caught in Vietnam as a foreigner sending out unapproved content.

I found this decree 91
But it seems to cover only calls and emails

I see flyers here all the time in Vung Tau. Usually it is for apartments some developer is selling. They put the flyer in the door handles of cars, the car owner then throws it on the ground. Never seen police stopping anyone, how could they, they would need to leave the office to do that.

... simply ain't going to work (imo).

leaving aside any legal/govt issues which is another huge question, there is a whole range of marketing that simply isn't practical or possible here.

the obvious example is letter-boxing, ie, how do you do that w/o letterboxes?

another problem comes from the way shops are generally organised and VN people do their shopping and the ubiquitousness of bikes ...

... basically everyone just drives their bike directly to the shop they want, buys something, and then drives off.

so you really don't have the same opportunity to even hand out flyers in large numbers

btw, note that even 'letter-boxing' 'windscreens' is problematic. and even if you go to a large supermarket, eg co-op,, i suspect you will be very unpopular with the shopping centre if you go around 'letter-boxing' bikes somehow ... although they might well accept a payment to let you do it?

and another thing about all of this marketing ... the govt/police won't have any trouble finding you, will they?

and of course newspaper ads are not a practical/effective idea either

so 'marketing as we (used to) know it, is all impossible, impractical, and problematic.

i see you can have banners on street poles (for a price)

hmmm. and best way i can think of now is actually persuading/paying shops to have your flyers in their shop counter (which given most shops layout is somewhat problematic too), or, have stuck on their windows.

Just be sure they are stiff enough card stock otherwise the whole stack will be swiped and used to wrap banh mi at the local cart.  I think I have had some even wrapped in tear off calender pages.  At least the rubber band looked (fairly) virgin but I did read an article a few months back about a ring that got caught recycling condoms with several hundred thousand confiscated so even those are suspect.

Obviously I eat at only the highest caliber stainless steel and plexiglas wheeled dining establishments.
