What is HIGHLY skilled worker?

Does Plumber and Gas fitter is highly skilled worker or is Bar Tender highly skilled worker.

My wife is a social worker (Bachelor degree with 18 year experience

I am a plumber and gas fitter 20 plus year experience)

Are we highly skilled workers?

I am a bit lost here.

You don't have janitors, who is cleaning hotel rooms? That's not highly skilled worker in my opinion...why there is janitors than, if Malta is for highly skilled workers?

In order to judge the Maltese labour market you have to experience it. As minimum wages are comparatively low workers from EU countries cannot always fill the gap. Therefore much of the technical workforce comes from Serbia and other non EU countries. We have bus drivers from Pakistan and the Philippines. People from other EU countries do not want to work for these low wages and many drivers from other EU countries do not want to drive on the left. Malta is different from high-tech countries in the north of Europe, like Austria where non-EU workers must have at least an income above € 50 000

per annum. The majority of the non-Eu workforce in Malta does not have an income above € 50 000 per annum.

$50k not necessarily. Income is relevant from your expenses.

Who is making $50k in EU country's? Not the average.

I lived  in 4 different countries in past 22 years.

I had jobs for $8/h and I had jobs for $44/h

depends where do you live.

In UK , States, Canada

yeah it is nice to have $50K a year

in Malta you can live for half of it and you can live  decent life.

I lived in Canada for $25k a year...a bit struggle but still you can live and pay bills and buy groceries.

People who make $50k are not looking to live in Malta.

Why would you say EU citizens making $50k and they want the same money in Malta as a ..let's say buss driver.

Makes no sense, man!

I just read your post again. I got ya. Low income Asians looking for work in Malta and that's  why there is demand for Asians.

My understanding Malta is low income country..something like 3rd world country.

Probay best to look on the 'Identity Malta' website for information on requirements for Third Country Nationals'.

The pinned post on here is now out of date and refers to EU citizens.

You are correct in assuming you will need to find a job first and the employer applies for your permit.

Residence is only granted on a yearly basis initially.

Others on here may well be better placed to know of contacts for working in the sectors you refer to in your other post.

According to your qualifications you could work as a self employed travelling social worker. May be in order to bridge the gap you can also sign up as a bolt driver.Knowing the Maltese language is helpful indeed. Just check out how much you have to invest in order to get residence. People who invest more than 900 000.00 will get a Maltese passport too. Another option is to search for Maltese ancestors. May be you have some and you qualify for a Maltese passport. Good luck

Try Malta Public Transport, they are always recruiting for drivers and will train you for PSV licence.

All the best with your job hunts guys. Best way to do, go get visit visa first. do your research while staying there and apply for available jobs. But don't expect too much. it is not US, UK or Canada where you can get 5K a month
