@jtorren Hi - Welcome. I'm in Sofia, but I'm retired and don't have kids, so my situation is a bit different.  Since you're interested in Sofia, I'm happy to give whatever information I have, but I probably won't be able to address a lot of your concerns. Good luck!

@Julien

Thanks for the opportunity Julian.

My wife and I have owned a property in and visited sunny beach several times a year for the last 16 years.  I am now here viewing properties (everywhere and anywhere that offers the peace and tranquility we crave)  with a view to moving here permanently very soon.

I have a request to all members as follows:

Today, I visited a beautiful property in Polyana (Yambol) which sadly has come onto the market due to the owners (Pam and Terry) recently passing.

The agent and I met an English gent (nice guy) living local who had the keys.  I would like to try and get in touch with him if possible, it was a little difficult at the time to take details as the agent was there and didn’t seem appropriate (first mistake).

Two dogs have also been left without a family, but this gentleman and his wife are currently looking after them at the deceased owners property (he has several dogs of his own so cannot commit further).

Does anyone know any Brits living in Polyana who may know this gentleman?  He’s been there a number of years, used to run a haulage business in the UK and does some of his own construction in Bulgaria.

In short, I have made an initial offer which includes taking the house, car and responsibility/love/care of the dogs.  I need to make sure this is communicated to the benefactor (Son called Noel) as the agent appeared apprehensive to move on the price which I believe is the sons prerogative not theirs.

It’s a long shot but any help would be gratefully received.

Hi we purchased a house in Morava, near Levski. Nice quiet little town with a few English people living in the village.

We are not looking to live there full time. We will come and go. At the moment, we are renovating it. We love coming here. We are leaving today to go home after being here for few weeks having works done. While here we forget what day it is, we don’t clock watch and we relax fully - even why working on house.

We are early 50’s so it will be a long time yet before we even think of living here permanently, but until then we enjoy coming over every few months.

We do have friends in our village that live permanently and are from England. We choose this area because our close friends came out and purchased their forever home in this village. We came to stay a couple of times snd loved the feel.

Hi there, we are a Kenyan, Scottish, German expat family living in Johannesburg and plan to move to Sofia next Summer. We have two teenager children who will attend the German school.  Is there any parents here whose children  go to the German school? Ofcourse the first thing we are looking into is which location to set our nest. We also have two dogs which we plan to bring along, a german shepherd and a labradoodle, all very friendly and oniduent trained. We would be so pleased to hear from you. I hear it's beautiful to live in Sofia! Best, Sylvia and family

Hiya.
We have a holiday home in the burgas region.
Not to far from yambol.
How often do you visit?
Perhaps one time we may be out at the same time.
It would be good to make friends if you would like to.
Have you had your holiday home long?
We just home from a visit out there.

Hi everyone,

I just moved to Pleven for work for 10 months. I'll be teaching English. I'm American and have lived/taught abroad in South America, Asia, the Middle East, and now Bulgaria. I was actually in Shumen last year teaching as well.

I'd love to meet up with any English speaking people (local or foreign) in the region. I don't have a car, so will have to rely on public transport. I am conversational in Spanish, as well.

I love to go hiking and exploring new places. I practice yoga and aim to lead a healthy lifestyle. I also love to have great conversations learning of people's life stories.

Thanks!

Tammy

I am trying to move to Varna (somewhere), I'll let you know when I get there.

I have a couple of friends in Varna, if you're too lonely I can speak to them to get in contact with you.

I am sure you'll manage, though.

Good luck!

Guest7632

Why by PM? Why not share?

janemulberry

Tony, you need to make sure you are aware of the D visa requirements. Since Brexit, as some Brits chose to leave the EU meaning we're all no longer EU citizens, it's more complicated for working age people to move to Bulgaria.

British citizens can stay 90 days every 180 without needing a visa (I'm not sure if that allows working or running a business), but longer than that needs a D visa. It you do a search on the forum, there's been a lot written about the requirements for this.

@HeebieGeebie

Hi Adam

I've just done this earlier in the year, with my Bulgarian partner. If you have any specific questions feel free to PM. The process was fairly smooth for us as the property is in my partner's name. I haven't yet looked into details regarding future long-term visa status. In the mean time I  come and go on tourist status.

Hi , just joined here . My name is Mario and together with my partner Martha we are buying a property in the lovely village of Radanovo in the Veliko Tarnovo region . Just fell in love with the serenity of the area , away from the hustle and bustle of the daily traffic jams and concrete buildings we endure back home . I will be needing to undertake a few renovations in due course so hopefully I will make a few contacts from here . Thanks for accepting me .

Hi, welcome and hope you have a lovely time in Bulgaria!

DiKei

Hi all

Thank you @Yoginee for the welcome email, happy to find this wonderful forum with active people.

I found this forum via Google as I was planning my move to Bulgaria. I would love to meet expats here and hope to get some practical information from experienced peers.

Have a great day!

allana1979

Hi everyone . I too am buying a property with this company .They seem excellent so far . I am so excited , it's all very new to me and something I have never done but so far seems a easy enough process. Would love to keep in contact with anyone over in Bulgaria or are buying over there .

janemulberry

Hi DiKei! The best way to gather information is to do a search on the forum for the issues you may have questions about, then start a new post to ask for more info.

Allana, what area are you buying in, and which which company? The process of buying is a little complicated (as buying property almost everywhere is!), especially for non-EU citizens as company formation is required unless you are buying an apartment with no share of the land included. But if you're with a good estate agent, they will help you through the process. Company set up and completing the sale at the notary is likely to be an additional fee. I'm in the process of buying a house in the north-east area that we hope to retire to.

DiKei

@janemulberry Thank you!

I did find information from the search and would like to get additional info based on my current situation.

However I tried to create a new topic and as soon as I press the submit button nothing happens! The [Post new topic] popup/modal stays on top and nothing gets posted, tried few times clearing cache but no luck.

Any idea?

Edit: Nevermind it finally worked, strange!!

Hello everyone,

@ DiKei, glad it worked : /forum/viewtopic.php?id=1009474. hopefully members will guide you soon.
