I arrived in Manila on 5 May and all I was asked to show was my proof of vaccination, PCR Test taken within 48 hours of departure and the barcode or QR code for the One Health Pass.

Nobody checked my onward tickets or my travel insurance although you should obviously have them also.

Come August you may not need anything. I am stopping off in Vietnam on my way back to England so went through the procedure of registering for a PCR Test at Cebu Mactan Airport only to find a few hours later that Vietnam has dropped all COVID restrictions. I expect other Asian countries will follow their lead.

That's promising news regarding Vietnam's covid restrictions being dropped. If only the Philippines could take a leaf out of the Vietnam storybook and follow suit. In the 60's the nation was the darling economic success story of south east asia - the country enjoyed stability, high growth, and massive investment in infrastructure. Vietnam is now a mirror image of those heady days. In the Philippines we now have the ultimate irony: the son of the nemesis of the country's downfall being elected as the new president. Apparently the guy is not guided by any strong beliefs other than to attain the highest office in the land. -"Hey look at me Pops, I did it"  Plus ca change (again)
