How do expats meet their gf/bf/partner/husband/wife?
-@mainguyen01
Same as everyone everywhere, how did you meet yours?
It's a HUGE subject there is a million different stories.
Are you trying to meet someone and want tips or just asking how we met ours?
Grab some popcorn...
@AndyHCMC i wanna hear the stories and some tips too!
What’s the name of the restaurant. I see many foreigners in district 1
-@Hooked
Hi there, Hooked. I'm in .
I didn't mention the name of the restaurant, as promoting a commercial enterprise (friend or not) on the forum is frowned upon.
I've sent you a PM.
-@Aidan in HCMC
If Expats can't honestly recommend goods and services, a huge positive function of the forum is lost. I think most readers can tell the difference between a shill and a true recommendation.  I might add that the same goes for negative reviews.

I agree.
Fixing glitches on this site should be more of a priority than worrying about promoting goods or services.

The old golden chestnut again, as Bhavna said many moons ago, linking to services like bus timetables, where the zoo is, what places to go to, where is the local bike/car dealer is ok along with where can I buy cranberry juice.
Linking to your mate's barbershop, spa, agent, broker etc is seen as shilling for them and once one person does it you will get every local and other member putting their link along with yours in a never-ending long list of every biz in VN.
They or you can put them in the biz directory (yes Colin I know) it's free or they can contact Expat and do an ad which is how the whole show gets funded.
What you can do is click on the posters message button and send them whatever info you want, for example "here is a list of rentals in your area on FB/Chotot etc"
Or just like in the last 6 hrs have ads for life insurance, crypto on every other post when you log in.
A Viet Kieu, BrÃan Nguyen, has won the "Miss Greater Derry 2023" in New Hampshire, part of the Miss America Organization.
No mention in Tuoi Tre News yet.

Reccomendations by long term or posters who have some merit would certainly be different to a poster who has just joined and is only there to spam.

Brian Nguyen, a freshman at Nashua Community College majoring in Business Management.
He certainly gets 10/10 for marketing his name.
Not your typical expat.com "expat"?

USA above France?
Uncharacteristically slow (agonizingly slow!) internet here on Phu Quoc Island for the past couple of days.
VNPT is reporting an underwater cable break, referencing an area around Hong Kong.
Any other members experiencing slow connection in other regions of VN?
@colinoscapee
You might want to follow Jordan Peterson-a world famous clinical psychologist who addresses that topic.
Powdered chicken soup is a bit boring, but not after immigration is applied.
Boil up so penne so it's nicely cooked
Add salmon balls (poor salmon, I weep for them) and a little fried chicken
Pop some herbs in to taste, and chili (if you aren't a big girl's blouse that can't take spicy food)
I add a splash of Tabasco as well.
Eat with glee as the taste tangos on your tongue.
Adding a small onion is also an option, but I have run out of onions (but not like the poor salmon)

Welcome to the forum, Joseph.
YOU might want to learn to use the quote function so your input can be considered in context with the already established conversation.
I'm pretty sure Jordan Peterson would agree.

Right then, .
@Aidan in HCMC If the primary cable enters Vietnam at Da Nang, how does it reach Phu Quoc island?  Is there a local cable from somewhere in Kien Giang?

I assume the slowdown being experience here is due to traffic which, usually flowing through that underwater cable, is now being routed through the overland cable from China which services southern VN. And yes, there is a cable running to the island from the mainland.
Make sense? Just my assumption, as I'm no expert.

Its that shark again, happens every year been for the last 5 years at least. Only thing is that it must have chomped on the cable after it "T's"off to Phu Quoc cos all OK here in HCMC so far.

I'm thinking maybe VNPT gives us just the dregs of Saigon's bandwidth

Ahhhhhhh that might be it, I am with FPT
another member of the goodolboy Mobylette fan club
Reading through some older posts today brought to mind a quote from one of my favourite authors, Robert A. Heinlein, and made me thankful for having become a member of expat.com.
"I never learned from a man who agreed with me."
Just wanted to say "Thanks" to all members who have contributed to making me, even if only slightly, less dumb.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior on social media?
People trying to arrange an apartment in Vietnam 6 months ahead of time, but waiting until they arrive to ask around for a nanny for their children...
I've been drinking fresh, unsweetened coconut water recently and my wife has started freezing some into 🧊🧊🧊🧊
Now I'm drinking my "cà phê Ä‘en đá, không Ä‘Æ°á»ng, không sữa"** over those ice cubes and it's really delicious!
**iced black coffee, no sugar or milk. If you think it's redundant to ask for no milk in black coffee, you've never had the order screwed up as often as I have. After trial and error, it's the only phrase that gets me exactly what I want, every time, even if it does draw some grins
What with the internet connectivity issues experienced in VN of late, I've found that logging in from here (link) (main page for the VN forum) is a little quicker/reliable than logging in from the expat.com main page (link), which seems a bit heavy in loading.
Hope this helps some members. Please let us know whether this makes logging on easier for you.
Hi: My name is Michael from USA. I am applying for Thailand LTR(long term retirement visa), just wishing VN has the same option, it would be my first choice. Anyone foreseen future news?

There is no Retirement visa for Vietnam.
"I never learned from a man who agreed with me."
This should be everyone's mantra!
"Reliable financial advice"
I have discovered since moving to VN that the easiest, sure-fire way to make a small fortune here is to simply start with a larger one.

"Foreigner" tax is worse in Cambodia, today two kids at gas station in Phnom Penh charged me double amount for gasoline due to my laziness and confusion - still I have to see that rotten character in mentality of kids in VN.
