We are also looking for information about retiring to the Paphos area, but as it is so large need guidance.
Our needs we think are simple but are ready to be advised accordingly. We would like a village /small town with good amenities, such as described above, with a good bus service as we really do not want to own another car if possible. locals amenable to incomers who know nothing about the language, wiling to learn but doubtful of remembering much in honesty,
A good view, coast or greenery but not located in the mountains, been there and done that, its blustery, can be cold and a long way from services.
To be picky we'd rather not have views of high rise apartments. Also does anyone know of local flying clubs, amateur radio clubs/members, old time dance hall for learners and a quilting club in the near locality. a huge long shot but you don't know unless you ask.
Thanks in advance,
M&M Hunt
Sadly good bus services to and from the smaller inland villages are not common and those that do are not brilliant...many simply have a single shop/kiosk a coffee shop and a taverna and not much else..... The larger villages may have a few more and their services may have a bus service that may be once an hour with limited running hours which get even shorter in winter... Outlying areas you need a car for sure and mostly will need to speak the language...
I think you would be wise to choose a coastal area but they tend to mere expensive..
Best advice is to get here take a short let rental property try various areas see what takes your fancy and do the same there . New arrivals rarely get their first choice right..it takes a little time 6momths to a year to identify exactly what it is and where you want to be that suits your intended lifestyle and gives you the services you require . We are all different and what suits one person doesn't necessarily suit another..
For example we live in peyia as it suits us and gives us what we want and need .. been here I years and have had 5 properties all rented and we bought our (5th) property last year....but many hate it .. others that we know have chosen outlying areas such as prodromi argaka droussiea kathikas tsada Kallepia .. then you need to consider health andtransport many are on hills and can be challenging waking as one gets older if you don't have a car
It's difficult to make recommendations as there are so many places but am sure ther will be one that suits you
Good luck
