Hello Zulfi Ali,

Here is the translation (part of) :

The new law will radically change the right of residence, specially the right of foreigners having contracted a marriage with a Mauritian citizen. Thus, foreign spouses will not obtain a de facto residence permit through a civil marriage with a Mauritian. The foreign spouse will be given a temporary permit for two years before they can apply for a permanent permit.

A civil marriage filed outside Mauritius between a foreigner and a Mauritian citizen must be proven through an application to the immigration services or an affidavit and documents certifying the civil union in the foreign country.

With the new law, the period between the publication of the banns and the celebration of the marriage with a foreign spouse will be 30 days instead of the current 10 days. In the event of termination of cohabitation by divorce, the foreign resident may remain in Mauritius for up to six months after the dissolution.

In the event of the death of the citizen's spouse, the widow or widower will have 90 days after death to apply for residency status, which will depend on the approval of the authorities.

For a foreign spouse to obtain a permanent residence permit, the married couple must have lived under the marital roof for two years. In case of doubts about a possible marriage of convenience, or sham marriage, the immigration services could investigate.

Furthermore, the immigration office can deny border access to foreigners if there is erroneous information regarding the reasons for their stay.

Indeed, people who have come for immoral practices will be deported to the border. Convicted criminals, those who would be a burden to the state, those who suffer from a contagious disease or chronic alcoholism or drug addiction and those suspected of drug trafficking or terrorism will be banned from the territory.

Residence permits, work permits or other regimes falling under the Economic Development Board such as investors or acquirers of incentive regimes will be subject to strict rules.

I don’t know whether the new law has passed or when will it be effective… if it’s a new law, immigration will be able to shed the light on your queries (pio)

A copy of the marriage certificate that can attest this union.

The non-resident will also have to provide an affidavit or other document sworn in a court of law in his country which will attest to the date of the marriage.

When you get married in register Office or by appointed registrar by the registry office is  legal valid married under UK law.
The marriage certificate can be attested afterwards aswell.
Will that be enough.

Let us wait some more ... For the time being I am not sure whether those measures will become effective.

As soon as there is confirmation they are official, we will get more precise details.

Have a nice day

"With the new law, the period between the publication of the banns and the celebration of the marriage with a foreign spouse will be 30 days instead of the current 10 days."

But a wedding visa is only for 30 days, isn't it? If my Maths is correct, the wedding visa should be given for at least 37 days, right?

@John Maradona Indeed it is quite a bit confusing. I hope that someone who has just been through the process will be able to shed the light on this matter... The passport and immigration office might be able to provide official infos..
