25 year age difference law in Egypt.

Yemen2USA

Hello,

Can anyone confirm that there is a law preventing any couple from marrying (in Egypt) with an age difference greater than 25 years?

Has anyone with an age difference greater than 25 years been able to have a civil ceremony in Cairo? If so, how did you do it?

Thanks!

What ages are involved?

Yemen2USA

@Fred

The age gap is greater than 25 years.

Fred

But what are the actual ages?

Yemen2USA

@Fred

My question is does this law actually exist. Our ages are not relevant.

Yes, they are.

I took a look at this and ages can matter.

Surely it's a simple question.

@Fred

So 25 and 51 could be treated different than 20 and 46?

The condition of the age difference between the husband and wife being 25 years is stipulated in Law 103, but it has been amended.

Or 16 and 50. Not answering a simple question tht might well change your circumstances suggests you may have something to hide.

Don't do it.

@Fred

Hi

I don't know if the law is now amended but when we got married in 2014 it was as follows:

I am Irish and was aged 52 and my wife is Egyptian and was 25.

We had a Lawyer acting for us and I would suggest you get one as well as this is somewhat detailed.

The Lawyer had to apply to a government ministry to get approval for us to be allowed to get married.

Another condition was that I had to put 40,000 LE in a bank account in her name and it could not be access by her for I think 5 years or if we divorced.

Plus her Father had to sign for approval of the marriage.

It was explained to me at the time that this law was enacted to protect the exploitation  of young women where men would come to Egypt marry a young women (usually from a poorer background) and then divorce her after a short time and leave her with nothing.  So a good law.

I'm sure the Egyptian family will be accepting due the money clause
