Why not consult a property lawyer in Mauritius? They will be better placed to give you advice.

It might be easier to come to an agreement between all of the siblings as to the future of the property. It is immaterial whether there are 8 bedrooms or not, unless one wants to buy out the others, sale of the property and dividing up the proceeds might be more practical. But that is a personal opinion.

Thank you very much for responding so quickly. We will be seeing a property lawyer is just I just wanted a quick answer today really due to the fact that we won’t be in Mauritius until August 2025. I completely agree with your opinion regarding selling up dividing But that has to be a unanimous decision. I believe it slightly a bit more complicated than what I wrote, but thank you.

You need a Wills & estate solicitor by the sounds of it. If there is a Will that needs to be followed. If there is no Will it does not have to be a unanimous decision to sell - all eligible beneficiaries need to get their share - which means property has to be sold.

Thank you for your response.. There is no will but a deed with all the siblings names.

So the best way forward is a lawyer as we needed to know if one sibling can forcefully sell the property without others agreeing.
