Please note that due to Village Council Elections on Sunday, 2 December 2012, the sale of alcohol is banned on Friday, 30th November, Saturday, 1 December and Sunday, 2 December.
Please note that due to Municipal Town Council Elections on Sunday, 9 December, the sale of alcohol is banned on Friday, 7th December, Saturday, 8th December and Sunday, 9th December.
So, shop early to avoid disappointment!
For those new to Mauritius, you will notice in the supermarkets that the aisles where beer/spirits/wine are located, will be closed during the above-noted days. This was confirmed to me at the supermarket today. I've been informed also that restaurants are banned from selling alcohol too for these days.

The government thinks that Mauritians turn into alcohol seeking vampires on election days or what ? What a silly thing to do but is necessary when you think about the mafia thugs running for the politicians.

If you think drunk driving has serious consequences, you don't want to know the consequences of DRUNK VOTING..... yikes.

Just check out the politics in Brazil for a prime example!
