That seems like a tough one. I do know certain western style hotels in Cebu like Seda and Quest have business centers that in all likelihood have fax numbers where custoners can receive faxes (and send). However, whether they will let you purchase that service as a non-guest I do not know but you could check. If you have a pc or even smartphone you should be able to receive in an eFax online  message center that you must set up. There is an eFax Philippines that you can google if interested.

Everyone has a cell phone. The sender can take a picture of the document and either send by email, Viber, Whatsapp, Messenger or text. If you need it printed, you can go to your local neighborhood copy/print business. Some of them are like a sari-sari store.

Personally? I think the question from the OP is trawling/phishing and we should steer clear, golly if you can't find a fax or printer in Cebu and have to ask an expat site? One wonders the motive. Who uses facsimiles these days anyway.

OMO.

Cheers, Steve.

If the faxer (business) is in the US, and he doesn't say but I suspect it is, if they want fax, you will not be able to send smartphone pics and they will not send pics to you. Has anybody ever run across a fax number here? I suspect it is USA or Canada because I have never run across a Philippine fax request or a Philippine fax number. But I maybe need to get out more too lol.

There are just a few places in the USA that still use FAX but there are a few and they tend to be rare but very important. THey tend to be:

            A. Lawyers offices. Lawyers hate dealing with email for some reason but they will deal with fax for signatures and

progressive lawyers might even use docusign.

            B. Banks. Also stuck in mid-20th century tech, they don't care of customers don't use fax machines anymore but

                progressive banks will use docusign.

            C. Government.

            D. Insurance companies.

So in the USA, to send or receive faxes you can go to a UPS store or Pack n Ship and deal with faxes no problem. But in Cebu City, that is a different story. Like I said, maybe a business center at a western hotel or perhaps the easiest is to sign up for eFax.

I agree that you could send or receive pics by email to the majority of businesses in the Philippines. Smartphone pics are accepted everywhere here.

Every 10 years or so I have need access to a fax machine. It usually happens when doing things requiring signatures like selling real estate, cancelling an insurance policy or the like. USA businesses will not accept smartphone pics or signed documents. They accept fax and many also accept an app called DocuSign.

I have never run across fax-using businesses in the Philippines. However, when doing paperwork with USA lawyers, banks, insurance companies and some government agencies you will need to deal with them on rare occasions where signatures are required. It sucks here but in the USA, it is easy to send/receive faxes at local pack & ship stores for perhap $1.50 per page. These institutions are stuck in 1985. More progressive ones use DocuSign.

One thing I didn't think of, he may be able to go to an internet cafe; they still have plenty in Cebu. They do have printers possibly with fax capability.

My printer is a four way, including fax. I had trouble trying to send a fax to Social Security. The fax did not work as I have v.o.i.p  phone service to the states.

You would be surprised how many institutions worldwide still use the fax machine. In fact it is thriving in the land of the rising sun (Japan) which was one of the largest exporters in its heyday. The UK NHS, the largest employer in Europe still uses them, even though they were supposed to be phased out by 2022.

One of the most versatile pieces of office equipment I ever owned in my study was a Canon plain paper fax machine. It incorporated a phone cradle, a printer, and photocopier all in one and sat on the end of my desk.

I am still using fax machine by multifunction laser printer/scanner/fax for the wife's LLC in the US. Very seldom used, but still used. I use it with magicjack voip. Magicjack works in the Philippines but sound quality can be better though. Marketers/scammers send crap during night time so I power it off in the evening.

I mourn each printer's demise every 5 years or so. A few moments of silence before sending it in the garbage bin.

I suspect you purchased that printer/scanner/copier/fax in the USA. I have purchased a Canon multi function printer scanner copier here but no fax. I love the manual_fill ink wells they have here, so much cheaper than ink cartriges and the fills last so long!

I have never seen a printer sold in PI in Dumaguete, with fax function or even a fax machine at Octagon or other computer stores here. If I had brought over a fax capable machine, I guess I could have connected it to my magicjack but I just had no reason. The few times I needed fax capability was in America where it was more cost effective to just use the UPS store. If I needed fax here I would just sign into eFax Philippines.

As it is, I did need to do signature/initial type paperwork a few times herr for banking transactions and for that, my bank decided it was OK to join the 21st century and use DocuSign rather than fax. Even my real estate agent used it for paperwork when selling our house. With DocuSign, the need for fax capability is even less but people might require it at any time when dealing with USA businesses and agencies.

I needed FAX capability  it to cancel our Medicare Part *D*prescription plans (not A or B). Our Part D was temporary, just for our 9 week trip, and very helpful with a zero premium plan (but still a monthly $25 penalty) which got me 90 days of free prescriptions before returning here. Americans traveling to the US can eadily sign up for temporary Part D at medicare dot gov. We cancelled Part D insurance before returning here to avoid the monthly penalty fee and we brought our free medicine back to PI. That cancellation REQUIRED a faxed letter and dated signature which I had sent via UPS Store.

Correct. That one was made in the Philippines but not as reliable

I had an HP 6835 purchased at Walmart. I had the printer head fail and it was out of warranty. A quick internet search and I found out this was a common problem. I called HP and mention the model number, it seem it was model HP 6830, but the ones sold at Walmart were labeled HP 6835.

I told them I didn't know how old it was but beyond one year. With no questions asked they sent me a replace gratis and paid for the return of the broken one. I'm now using it in the Philippines.

My first fax/printer was from Brother, it failed after one year, they told me to stick it.
