Also… any information on where to start selling everything we own here in Vietnam before permanently relocating to a less restrictive, less bureaucratic, less noisy, less gangstery, and less polluted country (there are no emissions controls in place here and most of the trucks spew deadly black exhaust clouds left and right).

Seriously?

It wasn't possible for you to simply ask without being absolutely obnoxious??

(here's your answer)

Outline of the consular processing steps for a spouse of a U.S. citizen to get a permanent resident visa, along with the fees involved:

Consular Processing Steps and Fees:

Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative:

Fee: $535. This is the fee for filing the petition with USCIS to establish the relationship.

National Visa Center (NVC) Processing:

Affidavit of Support Fee (I-864): $120. This fee is for processing the affidavit of support, which is required to show that the U.S. sponsor can financially support the immigrant.

Immigrant Visa Application Processing Fee: $325. This is charged by the NVC for processing the visa application.

Consular Interview at U.S. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City or Embassy in Hanoi:

No additional fee for the interview itself, but you must have completed the previous fee payments.

Medical Examination:

Fee: Varies, typically around $150 - $250 in Vietnam. This exam must be completed by a physician designated by the U.S. Embassy. The fee is paid directly to the doctor.

Visa Issuance Fee (if applicable):

Some countries require a reciprocity fee, but Vietnam does not currently have this fee for immigrant visas.

USCIS Immigrant Fee:

Fee: $220. This fee is paid to USCIS after the visa is issued but before or upon arrival in the U.S. to process the permanent resident card (green card).

Summary of Fees:

I-130 Filing Fee: $535

Affidavit of Support Fee: $120

Immigrant Visa Application Processing Fee: $325

Medical Examination: Approximately $150 - $250 (variable)

USCIS Immigrant Fee: $220

Total Estimated Cost: Approximately $1,350 - $1,450, not including the variable medical examination fee.

A lot of people use Facebook, you might do free listings in both the MARKETPLACE area and within any GROUPS created to buy and trade in your city. GO to the GROUPS area on FB  and search your city.

The OP should be referred to :

which contains the latest fee schedule. I know the I-130 fee has changed since I just paid it..

Thanks very much for the kind & helpful correction 🙏

I had a little help from an AI model when compiling the info but I was lead astray... 😏

There is a specific page I located with info on the first form on the list: Form i-130 Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative:

I'll eventually search through the whole list and come back and make corrections as necessary. The listed requirements for forms are correct. Just the prices may not be updated

Selling stuff is the least of your worries.  By the time you go through the CR-1 or IR-1 process of obtaining a visa it will be a minimum of 14 and closer to 18 months plus the fees OB outlined.  That's how long it took me to get the visa to do what you want to do.

I am an immigration lawyer, but I am *NOT* seeking any work.

USCIS and DOS websites are not very helpful in figuring out how to do this.

yeah we don't really believe it when someone makes their first post here and says they aren't selling something but then they include an external link to take people away from this forum.

if you've got the name of a website just post it without the active link

SteinNebraska

Actually the link he was posting was for another forum that is specifically for doing US immigration without lawyer help by the members themselves.  I used it quite a bit myself when navigating the immigration minefield.  It is totally legit but may be against the rules to cross-post another forum. albeit not in any conflict with this one.

Thanks for the clarification 🙏

Yeah, definitely verboten in these expat.com forums to link directly to other forums.

Also, it still may be a bit disingenuous for that poster to imply that his motives are entirely altruistic, since immigration lawyers are known to troll such forums for clients.

I'm hoping that admin doesn't have a problem with sharing a screenshot of the site, especially since you are such a trustworthy long-time member of the forum (my "senior" 😉) and it really does seem to be an excellent resource for US Citizens such as myself and the OP.

They are strict there about soliciting clients but there is always a "ask an immigration lawyer a question" tab on the page.  I believe that is where lawyers may solicit if someone reaches out through that channel.  It is a tough road to negotiate alone for some people and they want to turn it over to a lawyer, and that is fine if they want to do that.  It can easily be done alone if one is diligent and there is pleny of help on that site.  Several of the lawyers do offer advise in threads with a disclaimer that it is not professional advice.  Similar to your young lawyer friend here that would occasionally comment, but not professionally but I haven't seen her post here in years.
