Just wondering if Vietnam has banned all flights from Russia because of the war as I haven't seen a single Russian here in Nha Trang ?

Using the secret method that only I know, I can guarantee you that there are no direct flights at this time, but many connecting flights.

this might explain it...

"Vietnam’s tourism industry is also set to be affected. Russia was the sixth largest source of international tourists prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the sanctions have made many Russians worried about not being able to access funds if they travel abroad. This is something that will clearly impact Vietnam’s reopening to international tourists last month."

throw in a 30 day e visa and what do you get ? no Russians !

And tougher rules for the foreign English teachers !

vietnam has certainly not banned Russia flights.

I guess it might be an issue of the stolen planes. Russia has taken over like 200-300 borrowed planes they had on a lease.

As those planes are stolen, once they land on an international airport, they get seized. With an exception of countries who do not comply. I doubt vietnam would be that rogue country.

Russia already “lost†many western planes that way so they simply fly only to countries which do not comply with anything western.

Another problem is, that Russia doesn’t have spare parts for their planes, so with time, they will have less and less boeings/airbuses available

That's probably a big part of it.

Also, friend of the forum Ciambella recently told me that the government is currently not allowing the Chinese to conduct those "zero sum"(?) tours in which only Chinese tour agencies and hotels and restaurants, etc are used exclusively, ending up depriving the Vietnam economy of significant benefit from their presence.

I don't know if the Russians were making similar arrangements.

FWIW, Russians do get a 15-day visa exemption.

The rules are the same, but enforcement of the rules and crackdown on related corruption is tighter.

In 2020 you said you had been here for 4 years on tourist visas, so if you were teaching then but can't do it now, it's not because the rules changed.

It's because the rules that were in effect back then are now being enforced.

Technically you are correct Zdeno.

I can't find an official ban listed anywhere.

But since Vietnam Airlines was the only remaining airline providing Vietnam~Russia direct service prior to , essentially there seems to be a de facto ban in effect until further notice.
Johny5
@OceanBeach92107 well, as far as i read, already months ago it was russia banning international flights,l for domestic airlines to the fact they seize the aircraft’s once on the ground. Even after landing in Turkey agencies took Aeroflot boeing.

If a country doesnt comply and wont let agencies take the aircrafts, they themselves are risking issues, same with any country supplying parts for boeings/airbuses

One side steals boats, bank accounts, and who knows what else, but the other is a thief if they do the same.

Much the same here in Phu Quoc, Panda. I have two Russian friends here who arrived a couple of months ago after teaching English in Korea for two years. Besides those two, I've not spoken to a single Russian here. Incidentally, both speak impeccable English, university graduates (and it shows).

Why so few Russians? I have no idea. Off topic for this thread, I know, but since we seem to have strayed there this I can tell you...

I'm enjoying myself much too much here in Vietnam to spend time worrying about geopolitical events, over which I have zero control or influence.

and...

I don't own a television so I'm less likely to  be influenced by corporate appeals (regardless of what "The nice man on the television told me")

and...

I refuse to visit websites with an agenda telling me which team I should cheer for.

I was back in Nha Trang for a few days in July, it's a shadow of it's former self. Place was so dependent on the Ruskis and the Chinese. Sailing Club and a few other overpriced beachfront places were still doing business but every restaurant I used to frequent in the touristy part of town was gone.  North of the river was somewhat better, and it was nice to be the only foreigner at the mud baths though.

I used to pay 6Tr/month for my apartment there, my landlady is now charging 2Tr, all to Vietnamese where before it was about 50/50 in that neighbourhood.

Granted NT was never the greatest city on Earth but still, very sad to see how the locals have suffered and are still suffering from the last 2+ years of lunacy.
